My Favorite SuperSpeed

$IMG_2248.JPG

I started out with Merkur HD and immediately got hooked on DE shaving. But a lot of people in this forum tout that a vintage Gillette is something everyone should try. So I got hold of some super speeds (I really like the tto) and after several tries, I finally found the one that works best for my face: Rocket. I wanted to like the Red Tip because I like how it feels in my hand; rugged and solid. But it was too aggressive for me. 40s, 70s, and flair tip are mild razors and work fine. The Rocket, however, works best for me. General census in this forum is that Rocket is a good razor, and it's true.

I wonder if the blade gap of the Rocket is similar to the 40s ? .64mm if I remember well. If so, the difference must be in the weight.

Nice Super Speed pics, Try and not use any pressure with the super speed or go with a less sharper blade then a Feather, Try a PoliSilver or Astra SP, PoliSilver blades are Pretty sharp, just smoother then the Feather in the Red Tip for me. give it a try )

That's a great collection! I have never tried a Rocket, but the English TTOs seem to all be very well built.

I've got a flare tip Rocket. It's the only Rocket I've ever tried. The TTO mechanism on my Rocket seems a bit "tighter" or less sloppy than my flare tip Super Speeds. Overall, it seems a little more aggressive too compared to a standard flare tip Super Speed. I haven't used it but a handful of times though. Right now I'm alternating between New OC and Techs.

The Flare Tip 'S' Rocket with the smaller head from the '60s is my favourite Super Speed. IMO it's more efficient than the Rocket with the bigger head from the '50s.

On the left is the older Rocket from the '50s, on the right - the Rocket with the flatter head and end caps from the '60s.
