My Boars have softer tips than my Badgers

My broken-in boars have softer tips than my badgers and plenty more backbone for face lathering. Even the stiffest boar hairs now have split-ends that deliver soft goodness. Even the thinnest boar hairs have enough backbone for a great facelather.

There I said it. Glad I got that off my chest.

What grade badger brushes do you have?

Or, more specifically, which brushes? Grade is a good starting place but specific brushes give a closer identification to compare.

Only own one boar these days and it's not like a Semogue or anything but it's hard to imagine anything nicer than my BK 12 or Shavemac XXL.

Cheers,

Ken

+1 :thumbup1:. I was going to get to the specific later. Nothing in my view can beat a Shavemac (Silvertip or D01).

My VDH boar is much softer than my TGN Pure Badger. But neither is anywhere near as soft as my Shavemac D01.

In that case I think you badger brush is not badger

My Omega boar is probably as soft as my Savile Row 3124...but just in a different way. Both are pretty scrubby and redonkulously soft. I prefer the boar when i have a few days of growth, but the badger if I've shaved within the past two days. They're different but I love 'em both.

I tend to agree some of the way with the OP.

My boar brushes has softer tips than any of my Pure or Best badger brushes, they are similar to my Fine badger, but are surpassed by any of my Silvertips.

Can't say anything about a comparison to horsehair as I haven't tried that yet.

To a certain extend that is the big secret of boars, yes. Ideal for face-lathering for those patient enough to wait for the magic. Silvertips usually get softer but that backbone of boars....:001_smile

Various, softest of which is a Simpson Persian Jar 3 in Super Badger. No Shavemac to compare. :-(

By soft tips, I'm talking about the very tips.. so poking perpendicular against one's skin isn't the softness test I'm using. Drawing it across the skin is, and actual use. Floppy isn't my measure. Softness of the very tip is.

Peanut has good taste :001_smile

I own a Silvertip Shavemac, BK8, a few Rudy Vey brushes, couple of Simpsons... My Semogue 1305 is the equal to any of those mentioned. I just have different brushes for different days/soap/cream combos...

If asked though, of all my brushes, the 1305 is the stand out brush. When wet, and applied to the face, I can't tell the difference between the softness of that boar and any badger brush I own. And throw in the backbone that comes with using a boar... SWEET!
The only time a badger brush is noticeably softer than my boar brush is when the brushes are dry and not in use, for what it's worth.

Couldn't of said it any better.

I been trying boar brushes lately and I'm very impressed.

Got an Omega 31064 and it's just a wonderful tool to face lather with creams.

Boars can become very soft with time and break in. However, I haven't yet had one as soft as some of my high end badgers. Like anything else in this addiction its really about personal preference. While I prefer :badger: I do appreciate the pig.

Perished, approximately how many latherings did it take to get to this level of softness ?

thanks
