My 1st test drive with the Feather Artist Club SS

Hi Gents: I hope all is well with you and your families. Tonite was my very 1st real attempt on the Feather Artist Club SS. I shave both face & dome with DE and SE razors. I have been intrigued with straight razors but did not want to experience the maintenance in one so my recent purchase of the Feather Artist Club SS was much anticipated.

Just finished my face and dome shave with the Feather Artist Club using the very sharp Feather Professional blade. I used Tabac and my Semogue Owners Club 2012 SE. I had a DFS on my face but had more difficulty head shaving with it. Matter of fact. . . I had to finish off my head shave with my Weber DLC.

It took a long time to complete the task but I had fun doing it. However. . . I really struggled with the angles of this fine razor. I know it is going to be a challenging learning curve but I am willing to learn. So. . . if you have any advice for me I would highly appreciate it.

Half the battle is placing the blade to face! Things will get better the more you practice. The SS has a modified blade holder that actually requires a certain blade angle depending on how much blade exposure you have. If you place it flat on your arm you can see how much you need to raise the back of the blade before you get contact with the edge. In practice you will probably get the best results with the angle that has both the lips of the blade holder and the blade touching your skin. YMMV of course

I just got my SS earlier this week and decided to give it a try this morning. I was only going to do my cheeks and it went okay so I decided to try my upper lip. After I nicked myself twice, I just finished off with my Weber DE. Can't afford to get nicked anymore this week and will try again in the next couple of weeks.
