MWF Something has changed

Has anyone noticed a change in the MWF scent lately? I have found the new smell to be unpleasant to the extend I wondered whether I had a faulty batch.

My supplier did not acknowledge a problem but simply replaced the order with a new batch, same unpleasant smell though. Performance however is still good.

I have a puck now that I refuse t use because it smells like a nursing home. Nothing to compare it to though since it was my first puck of it.

Yeah, my new puck smells somewhat different as well. Close-ish to the last puck but not quite. I'm still using the dregs I pulled out of the ceramic container of the last puck instead.

Is it worse, better, or just different? The light, delicate, floral/spring breeze scent was a big plus for me when I was working through the puck I had. It would be sad if it changed for something more modern/deeper /richer.

To my mind the product is ruined, the new scent is repulsive. None of the suppliers seem to acknowledge this.

The shavepocalypse is upon us! The end is near! :biggrin1:

Im not much of a MWF fan, but I was considering going back and trying it again after the cella was exhausted. Looks like that may not happen if this is true, I actually enjoyed the previous "clean" scent.

I've never used MWF before this week, but it smells fine to me. Pretty much exactly as I expected it to smell going off the descriptions on here.

Luckily I am still working on a puck from last X-mas(2011) and have another in reserve also at least 18 months old. I am curious too what is going on as this is one of my favorites tried and true.

Mine also smells a little different. It is a bit more like a weak cologne instead of the old "clean, milky, floral" scent. After several uses, the cologne like scent reduced and the older scent did come through but not as nice as before.

I threw the box out so if others have the box with ingredient lists and batch numbers (located on the bottom of the box), that may help us to get to the bottom of this.

One other thing that might explain it is that pucks that have been sitting around and "aging" mellow out and lose that slight cologne scent and take on more of a mellow floral/milky/clean fragrance.

The reason I mention this is because I once received a puck from a seller that had a hard crust around it (which is of course not a problem, it just wears off after a couple of test lathers) and it had the nicest MWF scent ever. The pucks that don't have a crust and feel "fresher" are the ones with the cologne like scent.

Maybe we need to age MWF pucks prior to use??

I looked at the new puck I have and the ingredient list is exactly the same plus when I gave it the sniff test it smelled like the one I just finished.

When I go to my parents place next week (where I keep my stash of shaving stuff), I will open up a new puck I have had for two years and see whether it smells like the classic scent or the more cologne-like scent which I currently have in use.

If the two year old puck has the classic scent of MWF, it may confirm my theory of aging MWF pucks to tone down the scent from cologne-like to the mellow classic scent.

I have laid down a few pucks in the cellar to test this theory…
