MWF secret unlocked

I can't remember where but someone suggested adding a drop of shaving cream to the MWF puck before lathering - and WOW !!!!...I take back every single thing I said about the soap ! What an amazing experience. Maybe some of the other guys here who have had problems can replicate the results.
So far I have tried GFT sandalwood / Coconut / Arko / Eshave floral /.
While I am certain a lot of them perform very well on their own - you really got to try this to take it to the next level.

A cheap all-around lather maker is Kiss My Face unscented; it creates a lot of lather and won't muss up the scent.

I'll have to try it with the GFT Sandalwood. Maybe it will make the scent better as well. Love the soap and I can actually make an good lather with it but the scent is a bit old fashioned for me.

I like to add Musgo Real cream to MWF soap ... you get a double-dose of Lanolin, and Tallow to boot!

These two products both have a mild, subtle scent, but when added together, the combined aroma is really unique ... very, very nice smelling.

Not to mention, the shave I get from the combo far surpasses what either product can do by itself.

Some soaps explode with lather immediately, only to have the lather thin, flake, or dry out quickly. MWF seems to be the opposite- it starts very slowly, but improves through successive passes.

I'm considering hiring someone to take the first few passes for me, then hand over the puck for the rest of my shave.

Every cream I have added to MWF has worked for me. Be it TH, GFT, Proraso, TOBS, Godrej, Palmolive -----you name it.

Weird. I had my first experience ever with MWF today, which was my first experience with a higher end shave soap (only VDH and Williams soaps so far, with various creams).

Have to say, I don't know where all the trouble is coming from. I got a GREAT face lather with my FS Finest. I just started with a well sqeezed brush and slowly dipped the tips in some water for the first pass. It was still really thick and a little dry going on for the first pass, but thinned out perfectly for the remainder as I kept applying it to a wet face post-rinse.

Love me some MWF, man.

Edit: Hey, PusherMan...send the rest of the MWF and the Tabac my way then. I haven't tried Tabac yet.

However, I'm in the group that MWF works each and every time for; a little heat(hot water) and a dense brush does the trick for me.

Kinda agree with this. If you love superlather, then more power to you, but really good soap should be able to stand on its own. Sure, MWF might produce great lather with Musgo added in... but Musgo already is such an excellent performer by itself that you might as well just skip the MWF.

You never hear about people having to superlather Cella to get it to work for them.

Wellllll.... I have to agree and disagree. Not everyone uses the same parameters while shaving: some can make do with next to zero amounts of soap, others want a nice dollop of fat, heavy lather on their face, and so forth. MWF is not sufficiently stable on my face to be able to shave with it, so I need cream to turn it into something I can use. But that says very little about how MWF behaves on another shaver's face. On the other hand, I don't really like Cella much either. It is too heavy for comfort, and there's something in it which hides stubble remnants from the razor blades. Although most would put them in the reverse order, I rank Valobra above Cella.

It's also a matter of popularity and to some extent infamy of MWF: this gives it more attention than other brands.

MWF has been in my rotation for some time and I have never had trouble generating great lather. I think much of the lathering problems on this and other products can be traced to hard water and technique. With quite a few products in my rotation, I find that I have to be mindful of differences particular to each. Some are more thirsty than others. Some require more brush work while others just seem to generate great lather with little or no effort.

I tried distilled water and that didn't help, but today I used a Rooney with a good heafty knot, and I got lots of good lather. I think the small Berkeley I had been using on it just didn't have enough wiskers to pick up a lot of soap. Didn't even soak the puck.

My honest opinion. If you have to add any soap or cream to any product then that products sucks. Uber smuber. If you have to add anything to MWF then MWF aint crackin it for you. Its an OK soap at an OK price. So many better options out there that dont need additives. I am so close to finishing a puck of MWF and will not be replacing it. Nor am I replacing Tabac.

This. I think MWF is mediocre at best.
