MWF question regarding sensitivity

I got a sample and have been trying to figure it out along with straight shaving. Probably not the smartest thing to do together but hey, what can I say? I got a better lather today than I have been getting, not great but better. So, what's all this about the sensitivity thing? What does that feel like for those of you that know? I ask because my face feels kind of tight and a little dry. Not totally itchy but kind of tingly and maybe a little prickly. Sort of a weird sensation but keep in mind I am also on my third straight shave ever so...

other soaps and creams I use regularly are Proraso, AofS, and Tabac.

It may be you are reacting to either the fragrance oils etc or the lanolin. I'm sensitive to just smelling the stuff which is a shame cause most love it. I have some up on the BST for trade as we speak cause I decided its not for me.

Different people will react differently. Tightness around the face is likely just some dry skin, possibly from using too much soap. Reactions to soaps can make you feel hot, tingly, uncomfortable, prickly etc. If it is a mild reaction it may be hard to notice.

I would recommend using MWF on just half your face next shave, and a soap you know you aren't sensitive to on the other half and see if you get the reaction again.

Good luck!

That does not sound like much of a reaction to me. I would personally keep using it - Mitchell's Wool Fat is that good.

Cheers

I would be more inclined to point a finger at your new straight shaving habit than at the soap. It's very possible that you are sensitive to lanolin (or some other ingredient in MWF) but it is more likely that you are giving yourself a little razor burn with your new shaving method. YMMV, but I would test out one new variable at a time in future.

Yeah, I hear you. It was too hard to choose which cool thing to try first! I think you are right, though. I did get a decent shave for my third time and definitely learned something about MWF that worked better than before. I may go back to something I know for my fourth shave. Definitely not going back to the DE! (It's an R41 and no, it's not for sale) :biggrin1:

Had this feeling this morning after just lathering with MWF for the first time....

I had a different reaction to the fat at first also. At first I thought I was having a bad reaction to the lanolin but I just think I wasn't used to it. It is different from other soaps. My problem right now is I simply don't want to use anything else. It's that good

I've read that people can be sensitive to the lanolin but unless the reaction is really bad then it seems that shaving gets better with MWF the more you use it.

I actually have sensitive skin on my face in the form of psoriasis on my hairline and mainly on my chin & mustache area but since starting to use MWF it's just gone! I haven't had any flaking or visible psoriasis at all lately, even in the winter where my skin would shed in those spots minutes after shaving with fragrant free sensitive skin gillette or nivia gels.

You might like using Nivia or Proraso post shaving balm. They would most likely get rid of the "dry tight" feeling after you shave?

Sounds like dry skin to me as well although another day or two shaving with MWF will tell the story. Try an aftershave balm such as Afta blue-label or Proraso, use after every shave should take care of the issue. I will warn you, though -- it takes much less balm to coat cheeks, chin and neck than you would think. A three ounce bottle of Afta lasts me through at least 20 shaves.
