What's new

Mumblings of a 20-year-old shaver

The down side to this approach is what happened to me. You end up with a freezer bag full of soap and after shave samples that you will never use, you can't move on, or even PIF. On the other hand I have 7 or 8 medium U-Haul moving boxes full of soft and hard ware of shaving goods. Mostly matching soap and after shave sets with some times a matching EdT, cologne, or EdP.

I agree that is a downside; however, I have 15 samples boxed up and ready to PIF here probably in the next month or two after the Christmas season slows down. Maybe before then if I get some motivation. Any reason in particular you feel you can’t PIF them?

The shear quantity. I believe i Have over a freezer bag of samples. I like moving full size articles for both PIF's and sales, I also have plenty of multiple soap bases for the same soap like Barrister and Mann.

I tend to always check the shaving section of my campus store when I'm there. Picked up a new aftershave because for $5.25 why not. But I also found generic store brand blades, I am scared to even try one but if there is interest I will buy em for $2 and try em. I also don't know what classic scent means so I'll give it a go tonight.

Those are likely stateside Personna blades. They have made generic store brand blades for many years and I have a few in that very dispenser.

Wow... First and foremost I need to thank @blethenstrom and @Guido75 for recommending and helping with the bowl lather. I usually post in the morning after I wake up but I couldn't wait. World of difference to put it lightly. I thought I had a good face lather but that was blown out of the water on my first bowl lather attempt. My lather was dense, soft, and silky smooth. Maybe needed a bit more water so it is a little slicker, but the splash of water on my face before lathering helped. I told myself I was only going to do one pass cus my face was still a bit irritated but I did 2. I got a weeper on my jawline on that second pass XTG so I guess I got what I deserve. I took about 3-5 minutes to wip up my lather and went back to the water every 30 seconds or so but wasn't really keeping track. I've attached before and after's of my lather. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Got another weeper on my chin where I have some acne so I gotta keep an eye on it. Smooth shave overall. Reapply lather between passes for the first time was a pleasurable experience too. Giving another go at bowl lather tomorrow (and likely every day after that to be honest). Getting some lotion tomorrow to use on my face in the mornings to keep from drying out. I'm sticking to one pass tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Something that helps my lathers, both bowl and face lathering is the Flairisol Misting spray bottles sold on Amazon under various brands. I use it on my preshave and through out my passes.

If you need to dump off samples let me know!

Worth giving a try?

May have to give this a shot, just spritz of water sounds nice.

If you want em you got em. I have several different brand samples from Pinaud, to Sterling, Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, Martin de Candre, Barrister and Mann probably, I would need to check and see what else. Many of the samples came from Maggard Razors who offer many of the brands they carry. I went nuts on PAA, They have so many scents, and, you really have no idea what it will smell like until you try it. At least I didn't.

I have always liked generic Personna's I have blades in that dispenser going back until the 90's or so I believe. I collect and use a lot of vintage blades and these are always good even in other dispensers.

As to the Flairisol it is a misting bottle so it sprays slow and finely over your face.

Today’s shave 12/3/24:

Pre-Shave: Hot shower with a CeraVe wash in the shower
Soap: Cella Aloe Vera Shaving Cream
Brush: Omega 48 Boar
Razor: Gillette Tech
Blade: Astra SP (1)
After-Shave: Old Spice Classic and Aveeno Moisturizer

Song of the Shave: None

One pass today, no irritation. Gotta give my skin time to heal after that irritation spell. Skin feels a lot better to the touch as well. Lather was good, ever better than yesterday. Today was even more dense which made it awkward to paint on my face. Might need more water and time. Wasn't a huge fan of the Old Spice Classic but ill give it another go. Here's to a great Wednesday!

There is not a huge difference, but, I have always enjoyed Original from Shulton better than modern Classic Old Spice. Reminds me of my Grandpa. The Indian version of Original seems to have a following around these parts. I have Shulton Old Spice going back to at least the 50's. Of all my Old Spice soft ware what I like the most is the soap on a rope with a rope long enough to put it over your head, lol.

Does the blades have a country of origin in the back of the package? Might be manufactured by one of the big ones. Always fun to try those unknown items.
Made in Germany by the Edgewell Personal Care company. Did some googling and found that "The company owns a number of brands, including Schick, Wilkinson Sword, Hawaiian Tropic, Banana Boat, Edge, Cremo and Billie.". Guessing they are Wilkerson Swords then maybe? Who knows. I know @tehnothing thought they were Personna's and they still might be.

I also peeked at some of the aftershave and balms they had. I've attached a picture. They also had VDH unscented soap I picked up a while back. Haven't used it yet though. If you have any opinions on the green aftershave or the Duke Cannon Aftershave Balm please let me know!

Personna, Germany then for the blades. It means that they will probably be fine blades.

Today’s shave 12/6/24:

Pre-Shave: Hot water splash with a CeraVe wash
Soap: Cella Aloe Vera Shaving Cream
Brush: Omega 48 Boar
Razor: Gillette Tech
Blade: Vikings Sword Stainless Blades (1)
Post-Shave: Nivea Moisturizing Balm
After-Shave: Old Spice Classic

Was up till midnight writing a paper so I crashed after that instead of shaving, so morning shave it was. That means no pre shave shower. I still have some blades from @Grundi Viking Sword giveaway so I switched it up from my usual Astra SP for a Vikings Sword. Man is it a close shave that I really enjoyed. I really like these blades to the point I am going to try and get one or two more shaves out of it unlike my usual one and done. Made the lather more slick today, that could have helped with the closeness. I tried the Old Spice again, still not a fan, so I will be going to back to my Nivea deep bourbon vanilla for now. Roommate was still asleep so I shaved by phone flashlight light, wasn't the easiest tbh. Washing my face before my shave has definitely helped my skin, and moisturizer too. I have been using stridex pads to combat my acne but sparingly as they dry out my skin. Bag Balm seems to work best on my chapped lips after trying everything else so it has become my go to. Leaving the dorms for the weekend so my next shave will be Sunday night. Have a great Friday.

Once again another great shave with this blade, but I did bin it after. I didn't want to push 3 shaves with it. Had 3 days of growth to get through and I was almost BBS after 2 passes. I did WTG and XTG with a ATG up to my chin. No nicks or weepers but did have one red spot. Had some light stubble on my left jawline but everywhere else was smooth as can be. Lather was good, but I feel like I have a hard time getting the lather to leave the brush and stick to my face. Might not shave as much as it is finals week but once I get back home, I'm back to shaving every day. I've also got tons of samples to try courtesy of @tehnothing so I'll be reviewing those every time I use one. I also have some soaps from a PIF I won so I will be trying those as well. Have a great Monday!
