Mumblings of a 20-year-old shaver

“I am a well overdue couch potato”
I could ask all day! I currently use a 2 banded badger but I see you talk about 3 banded a lot. What’s the difference? What do you find you like more about each # of bands?
Here is a great post from the Shaving Brush forum from one of our resident brush makers @Rudy Vey !! It explains it really well and has a nice visual!

The 3 bands which are my favourites are the denser brushes. I find them softer tipped and splay a bit easier on my face!!

Yesterday's shave 2/3/25:

Pre-Shave: Hot Shower, CeraVe Wash, and Noxzema
Soap: B&M Seville
Brush: CC Badger
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Cobalt Ceramic
Razor: RR GC 0.68
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock Black (5)
After-Shave: PAA John Frum
Post-Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm and CeraVe PM Moisturizer

Song of the Shave: None

Rating: 9 CCS

This was my last shave with this blade as I noticed a drop-off in efficiency. Can't complain at all though, WTG, XTG, and ATG in some spots. B&M really makes some good soaps as I keep coming back to it over others. PAA John Frum smelled nice, might finish it off tonight. I really am starting to prefer my boar brush, the badger just holds so much soap in it and takes a lot longer to load. My last test for a while was this morning, back to normal sleep and shaving! Have a great Tueday!

Seeing @blethenstrom talk about tossing his soap got me thinking about some of my soaps. I got them in a PIF and there are some that look very funky and am worried they have gone bad. I have attached pictures for people's input!

I do not know what those looked like originally. Is that a sterling? I do not even know if mine was bad, but I was fed up with it anyways. Maybe someone else can enlighten us a bit more.

Looks okay to me.

If in doubt, scrape away the top layer, but I think someone has just put the lid on with a load of proto-lather in there and it has dried out.

Today’s shave 2/4/25:

Tech Tuesday!

Pre-Shave:
Hot Shower, CeraVe Wash, and Noxzema
Soap: Wholly Kaw Denarius
Brush: Omega 48 Boar
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Cobalt Ceramic
Razor: Gillette Tech
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock Black (2)
After-Shave: PAA ESP
Post-Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm and CeraVe PM Moisturizer

Song of the Shave: True Crime Podcast

Rating: 9 CCS

I had seen postings about Tech Tuesday and I like that idea! So I followed suit and grabbed my tech and it still had a blade. This soap took some effort to get a lather after a long load and building but after a few minutes and really creeping up on it, it got a good lather going. This soap was pretty old and hard so that might have something to do with it. Couldn’t describe the soap scent but the aftershave was kinda floral. Same triple pass as always. A little bit of irritation but such is life. Have a great Wednesday!

I have started my swimming class, and my face has been dry. I have a PM moisturizer but does anyone have a good daytime face moisturize?
I could give you some suggestions, but...

You're in college, right? There are girls there, right? You need to find a couple that you may be interested and get them talking about their skincare routine. Trust me. They love to talk about this stuff. You might even get a free makeover out of the deal.

And in the interest of being evenhanded, if that doesn't work out, find the cattiest gay guy on campus... he's the one the girls go to for advice anyway.

Yes I am in college. Fortunately, me and my girlfriend have been together for over 2 years but she is not one to do skincare, her skin takes care of itself miraculously.
