Multiplex on eBay.de

Interesting find. If I remember correctly, one sold on eBay a number of months ago for over $600. The case was in better condition, but it still seems like you got a great price for that one. I would be very curious to hear how it shaves. I would assume it takes some sort of proprietary blades, correct?

The blades fit in sequence, so it takes 5 different proprietary blades. :scared:
But they should sharpen up.

edit: and yes, one did sell for over $600 recently, and one even more recently for about $500 shipped, so I'm pretty happy about the price.

Interesting ... were they originally intended as disposable blades that you could just purchase as a set or were they originally intended to be re-sharpened for use by the owner perhaps a bit like a Rolls Razor?

On that I have no idea. The absence of any kind of stropping apparatus in the cases might mean they were intended as disposables.

Never heard of such a device, looks like some piece of medieval torture device....

Tell us where you hid the gold....or we will shave your face.

Congratulations on a fabulous score! I am really envious.

You've got an honest to goodness collectors piece there. I'm sure that there are any number of jewelers who could fix that case in a flash. You'll have to decide whether you that's sacrilege, I'm sure there are those who would think so, but cracked case or not, that's one great score.

It arrived today. No photos yet, as it needs a good cleaning.
Contrary to what I thought, there are only two different kinds of blades in this. 1,3, and 5 all take the same kind of blade. It has 3 holes in perfect symmetry up and down. This means that the blade can be used in position 1 until dull and then flipped over for use in position 5 or 3.
Blades 2 and 4 have two holes, and so are also interchangeable.
Like the tires on your car, this gives new meaning to razor rotation.
(edit: I just realized something silly. They can just be flipped in the same position. That would be simpler. Not sure why I thought it had to move positions)
[edit edit: It cannot be flipped at all. The other side is not a cutting edge. If I took up drinking I might have an excuse.):blushing::blushing::lol:

What I found really neat was the center. Now if I had paid close attention to the other multiplex auctions I would have seen that there is no center post. That thing right in the center doesn't go through the razor at all. It is just mounted on the cap and has threads in it. These threads are for screwing it into the case. Yep. The razor screws into the case to hold it steady for storage. No banging around in there at all.

Another thing is that it appears you can alter the number of blades you use.

(it's pretty obvious that the other side is not a cutting edge, too, what with the giant notch in it and all.)
Now that that confusion is over with, I'm off to clean some disposable razor blades.:001_unsur

Cant wait for the pics,,I bet it cleans up nice...Question:..are the proprietary blades still available?...Would it be possible that "drilling the holes could cause an alignment concern with the blades?? That would not be a good thing

What I thought was soap scum on the blades was not. It appears to be some kind of white coating, possibly anti-rust? The lettering is on top of this coating. Some of the coating is gone, taking the numbers with it. If there was any doubt that these blades were disposables, I think that settles them.
