I've been using one for a year now. For a while I was thinking I ought to "upgrade," but those thoughts have pretty much disappeared, especially since I discovered Polsilver SI blades. It's very well balanced and looks great. I feel pretty happy with the aggressiveness because I can get a very comfortable 3 pass shave when I want a longer, relaxing shave (two passes are all that's really necessary for me to get a really nice shave). With a more aggressive razor (like a Pearl open comb), a third pass can be a little irritating on my neck.

Id certainly say so. It is a nice, mild razor that gives great shaves. IMO, an EJ DE89 is a better beginner razor because it can be had for a bit cheaper than an R89. You can often pick up a DE89 for $20-30 off of Amazon, you wont touch an R89 for any less than $40.
