Muhle R89..??..Problem..???

I just got this razor this past week late and Ive got to tell ya its one excellent piece of machinery. Very well built and finishied. Closed comb with slanted "teeth" as cmpoared to straight ones on my other razors. It shows slightly more blade exposed than my other also..??

One small problem maybe?? Regardless of the cream I use or soap for that matter.....when Im done it feels like some creature has EATEN my face!! Not cuts that bleed or anything...but more of a "raw" feeling..?? Maybe its made for someone with tougher skin and a hard coarse beard..? Any ideas?

This might be a stupid answer - but we have seen it before...

Did you put it together the right way?
Sometimes the bottom plate is put wrong site up and the R89 might be evil then.

You're partially right!....LOL

Its assembled correctly.....:001_rolle

Most consider the R89 or the DE89 to be a fairly mild razor. I found it to be very blade dependant.... Many blades juat left me irritated with it.

What blades are you using?? Prep?

Ive got a DE89L and I have to agree its a VERY mild razor. Im using a feather in this Muhle at present but going to change later on today for an evening shave. The present blade in it is a Feather because it came with the razor. We shall see and thanks for the input

I have used feather blades in mine and got a great close shave, but I had the same feeling as you! Derby blades leave no such feeling. My guess is you need a slightly milder blade like I did.

I installed one my my 100 pack of Astra's to try this evening BUT...I did notice one thing...??

My other razors with various blades in them have "some amount" of blade edge sticking out on each side....and this Muhle with the Feather had visible more blade protruding. Cant tell how much because I have no way to measure it, but with the Astra blade in the Muhle...it "appears" to be the same amount of protrusion as in my other razors!!!!!! I'll know tonight after shaving but this blade thing MIGHT BE the answer....I sure hope so because other than the shave I really love the quality of build in this thing.

Hmm, that's odd. I can't see how the blade could protrude different amounts..they're all the same width. You sure you don't have an R41 :) . I actually thought the DE89 and R89 had the same head, but I've been wrong plenty before!

I couldnt resist the temptation! I put an Astra blade in it and it shaves FINE.....just like I thought it should. I dont know what the deal was with the Feather blade? Oh well....Im back on track now.

Just got my R89 on Saturday. Two shaves with an Israeli Personna Red were very smooth. I like this sooo much better than the Parker 22R I was using before.

I start with an Astra SP in any new razor I get. It is my gold standard blade. The blade that all other blades are judged against "better than or not as good as" an Astra.

The Astra is a no surprises blade and the best one to start with when using any newly acquired razor.

I like Astra's and Derbys both...and I like Feathers too but not as much. Something was wrong somewhere with my new razor...cause it didnt shave worth a ****....but it works fine now. Might have been a tiny piece of plating or something..??...hung up somewhere???The more I think

about it...I may have had that first blade in "upside down"..???.

i like Feathers, just a little better than Derbys. Those are the only two blades that I've tried in the R89 so far. I have not had the Gillette NEW razor long enough to get used to it, so with that caveat, I have to say that if I had to have just one razor, it would be the R89.
