Mugs vs. Bowls

Anyone have a strong preference for the kind of bowl or mug for lathering? I have an aesthetic passion for the Pils 201D shaving mug, though I also like the apothecary style that most labels seem to carry. I'm looking for the best lathering vessel with classic and classy style. Any help?

Unacceptably Lasering Chicken Giblets?
Try farmers markets and/or local potters.
Just have a look at their hand thrown bowls and mugs. There are some beautiful ones.
I went to New Hampshire a couple of years ago for my daughter's high school graduation and I found two beautiful bowls at a local vegetarian restaurant/coffee shop. The two are my favorites. They match my bathroom counter and just look like they belong.

I know exactly what you mean.

It just doesn't get any classier than this! $IMG_1392.jpg

Well......maybe if it said Vichyssoise

It's purely personal preference. I find mugs to be very narrow and confining, and like wide, shallow bowls where I don't bang the brush handle against the rim all of the time. I like miso soup bowls, but am currently either using a shadow Japanese bowl with dragons on it (looks cool, works just as well if not better) or lathering in the tin using extra-wide tins from Stirling.

I picked this up at wallgreens for 10 bucks. It looks similar ones I have seen on some shaving websites. Perfect size. cook your eggs in it too.

I've stumbled across some wide 70's coffee mugs at thrift stores. These cost less than $3 taken all together. I prefer face lathering, so I don't do any real lather building in them. They're just containers for soap pucks. They seem to be plenty wide for loading my brush and could work well for lathering purposes.

Don't know if it qualifies as classic looking, but I got the Marvy Shaving Mug a few weeks ago and it's roomy so I am not banging my brush against the sides. I face lather so it's just used to load up the brush for the most part.

I really like that Pils mug, but i use an apothecary style now. I definitely like the knob more than a traditional handle, and appreciate a good flare opening. Although, for the price you can't beat a nice thrift store find.

I use mugs to keep the soap puck. I'm a face latherer and all I need the mug for is so I can load the brush.

I too like the Marvy mugs. I have 2 of them. One is larger than the other in case you like a lot of room to work your brush. They do have a classic appearance.

I like rice bowls for shape, but for a classic look and function: vintage Old Spice mugs$m6aSUJAwOkOLEgVvau3trEQ.jpg

This is what I use. It's nice because the sides are angled and short so it's real easy to whip up a lather without banging your fingers or brush handle on the sides. The painted lines running across it are slightly raised up, creating a bump that I think also helps with lather building. I believe it was around $5 at Wal-Mart
