Muelhens 4711 = ADP Colonia ?

Just received my bottle of 4711 in the mail today and I've already shaved but thought I'd splash a little bit to get a sense of the scent.

At first, it smelled a little harsh, but then about 10 minutes later, all I smell is Acqua di Parma Colonia!

I wear ADP so I'm very familiar with the scent and to me 4711 smells almost identical to it (while it lasts).

Has anyone else experienced this?

Well, both are Koelnisch Wasser, i.e Eau de Cologne (or Colonia in Italian).
Johann Maria Farina (a born Italian perfumer, who moved to Cologne) created the type of scent in 1709, he named it "Koelnisch Wasser" in 1742 to honor his new hometown of Cologne. 4711 was introduced early in the 19th century by Wilhelm Muelhens, also in Cologne. When I was a kid, pretty much every woman in Germany carried a small bottle of Koelnisch Wasser, mostly 4711 in their purses - it was used for refreshment, dabbed on the face and pulse points etc., but also used as a disinfectant for small wounds. Whenever I had a little scratch, my mom would drop some on a hankie and dab it on the wound...believe me, I got my share of 4711......

Reminds me when I was a kid growing up in Egypt in the late 70s and early 80s. We had a similar cologne/aftershave called "555" and it was also used as a disinfectant, refresher, and aftershave by most men.
