What's new

Most popular, new Razor and why ?

I've only been in the DE shaving game for a few months...like it a lot...only one bad cut, some nicks though.

I read many of the reviews, posts, threads about razors, before making the right decision.

Since I didn't have any previous experience with a DE shaver...I relied on other's opinions...at this website.

My choice...a Muhle R89 razor. A bit expensive, but the comments from others seemed to indicate this is an excellent razor.

After a couple of months of use, I would agree.

I only intend to have this one razor for the rest of my shaving life, unless of course, it somehow breaks...but it's so robust...that I think for it to break...would have be an incident, involving a Mack truck.

But I don't think the Muhle R 89 sells in huge numbers.

I do think the Merkurs seem to be the top sellers...I could be wrong, though, don't know, just guessing.

My question being...what DE razor's..... sell the most...and ...why ?

Is it lower price ?

If so...why do a number of DE shavers have a DE Razor collection...comprising many different DE razors...which, when you tot up the total cost ...the cumulative total, must cost more than one top notch razor, like the Muhle ?

Variety I suppose, for some.

Having absolutely no information to base this on, my guess is that the sales of razors are ranked inversely proportionally to their cost. So I'd bet the top sellers are Weishi, Parker, Merkur, Edwin Jagger, Mühle, etc., in roughly that order. Parker and Merkur both have an impressive number of models, so that says something right there.

Guys have multiple razors for a variety of reasons. Razors don't all shave the same, so some fellows like to alternate or rotate them. If I haven't shaved in a couple days, I wouldn't even think of trying a mild Tech for the job. On the other hand, I wouldn't use my Old Style open comb if my last shave was only 20 hours before.

Interesting use of commas and ellipses. I suppose you mean to ask which current production razor sees the most circulation. I would assume the brand is probably Merkur, though which model I don't know. I think that they occupy the head of the game because they sell many different models, many of which are quite reasonably priced. Part of the reason the Muhle doesn't sell in large volumes here in the US is, firstly, market penetration (ie, nobody here uses DEs and those that do are less likely to have encountered the brand), and price (Muhles are relatively expensive stateside). Edwin Jagger razors, on the other hand, see quite a bit of action here as they share heads with the Muhle razors, but cost significantly less.

I have no actual numbers but I think that Merkur sells more razors (all types combined) than Mühle. On the other hand the EJ's and Mühles are in the same price range overhere as the classic Merkur 3-piece razors (15/23/25/33C and 41/42N) and I see more of the Mühles/EJ's at dutch webshops. According to my #1 vendor (the Dutch Barbershop) they sell better than the Merkurs though he didn't provide any numbers.

Another thing that makes it hard to know what sells best is that all we take into account is what we talk about here at B&B while we are, seen worldwide, a very small and relative very rich minority in the DE shaving world. The average Indian or African DE user will not even dream of such razors as Merkur or Mühle while they no doubt buy the bulk of the world's production. So I guess the best seller is a sub $2 razor made in India, Pakistan or China that will never reach our vendors at all.

Btw, I think your R89 is an excellent choice and one of my favourites!:thumbup1:
