What's new

most face friendly shave set up?

Gents, what do you consider the ultimate in kit for your most moisturizing shave?

What razor?

What soap or cream?

Pre/post?

Aftershave?

For face friendly, nothing beats my 40's style SS with a Derby or IP Red blade. Usually I prefer creams, but for the past week I've gotten close, comfortable shaves with several razor & blade combos using Tabac. I'm really starting to like that stuff. :yikes:

KMF coating on my face in the shower for a few minutes.
Hot wash cloth before shaving- 2 minutes.
Bigelow cream
Fat boy with an Astra- two passes with hot wash cloth between
Hot rinse
Cold rinse
Thayer's AS splash about a minute
Bigelow 1200 AS balm

Perhaps not the closest shave, but soft as can be :biggrin1:

Gold HD
Wilkinson Classic Blades
VDH Soap or Trumpers Coconut Oil Cream with 3 drops glycerin
TH Pre Shave Oil
Nivea or Aqua Velva AS Balm

Any quality straight razor honed WELL on a Coticule
Gentlemen's Best Soap, AS, EdT :thumbup1:

Don't forget a well broken in boar brush or a Rooney Finest badger brush

Pre - nice hot shower
Blade - somewhat irrelevant, any properly honed straight does the job
Soap - Tabac or Palmolive (if pressed I would choose Tabac)
Post - Thayer's Witch Hazel then TGR Unscented ASB

Are the Gentleman's Best products really that moisturizing Paul?

also, im surprised that you noted the coticule, it gives you your smoothest edge?

Jeremy, im surprised at your soap choice. I love both of those soaps, but think of them as a bit drying. however, i also think Pre de Provence is somewhat drying as well.

Yes the GB products are so good for me that I've only used one other line since getting it in almost 3 weeks ago... I normally crave the variety, but I'm very pleased with this set up. The soap is very good, and the AS is probably my favorite.

Also, the coticule edges give me the most comfortable edge. I'm not sure if it's the sharpest, but it gets the job done very well and is the most "face friendly" finish that I've ever used.

Pre: CF Pre-Shave (I used to be a doubter, but am now a believer)
Shaver/Blade: Mergress with a Shark Super Chrome
Soap: Valobra Stick
Post: Any L'Occitane ASB

That's been my standard for shoveling snow in blizzards the last week and a half.

Pre - Hot soapy water with Dove soap and a hot towel
TOBS soap
38 c Merkur
Right now Obsession or Mambo AS Balm - Want to try Nivea AS Balm next

For me, all soaps are drying. I think with Tabac and Palmolive it is more protection than moisturizing. A couple of weeks ago I would have never offered Palmolive as an answer, but on a whim I used it for a week or so and my face like a million bucks everyday.

HD with a Red IP
AOS Sandalwood soap or Pre de Provance soap.
Ogallala AS, any of them. The witch hazel really makes these nice and takes the Bay Rum sting out.
