Mortar pounder for Bowl

I notice some shavers use japanese seed mortar bowl for lathering.

A "Daiso" japanese store just recently opened near Mustafa Centre (Singapore) and today, I found it carries 3 sizes of these mortar, 2 of which are simply bowls without the pounder
Sizes: 10cm, 12cm and 14cm diameter. And no, I did not buy any (since I face lather - but I did buy the 10cm mini version 2 months back out of curiousity - and found it to be too shallow & small (palm size)]

Here are pics of the 10mm dia. mini mortar with mighty midget (mixed) for size comparison:

If you happen to be passing through, check it out...
Each (regardless of the diameter) sells at SGD2. They also carry 'pottery', 'stoneware', 'lacquered', covered glass bowls, all at SGD2 each.

My lacquered (with EJ Sea Buckthorne) and 'pottery' (previously used for lathering):

That is a great looking bowl! I tried finding them on the Daiso website and couldn't so I Googled it. If anyone else is interested they're called a Suribachi. BTW, great pictures!

The ribs inside the bowl look like they would be great for whipping up a nice lather. I too face lather so only thing I use a bowl for is hot water for my brush but those bowls will probably turn a few peoples heads.

Got a Suribachi from Amazon USA (I'm in England btw), cost around $20 delivered but much more expensive on Amazon UK.
My ones about 5 1/2 diameter and came with a wooden pestle. I've used it by rubbing in a stick of soap (Palmolive) and also with a small dollop of regular shaving creams such as Proraso Green. Whips up a treat, fits into the hand really well and is just so beautifully made. 10/10 for me.
