What's new

Morihei

I visited Morihei's shop last week and bought a couple of stones. My wife and I returned to Tokyo yesterday, so this morning another trek to Asakusabashi was in order to revisit Morihei.

The main man, I can't recall his name at the moment but he's the head of the company, showed me several stones and even let me demo a couple. I ended with two more level 5 finishing stones from the Oozuku mine and a karasu 9K stone with a man-made binder and natural abrasive. I also picked up two medium-size chu naguras at a friendly price. This really made my day.

So many great looking natural stones on display in the showroom.

Morihei is the real deal for sure. It is their oldest daughter who runs the shop. The 3rd floor is where the historic collection resides, behind glass doors. Super quiet up there away from the street noise.

Alx

@alx gilmore - Thanks for the information. I assumed he was in charge because they had two enlarged articles displayed that appeared to be from a magazine or trade publication with a younger version of this man pictured. It was written in kanji, so I couldn't read the text. The manner in which he conducted himself seemed to reinforce that assumption. He was a very nice man and patient as he figured out what I was looking for.

Wow, Stones R Us!🙂

Is that all they sell? That's fantastic. I never knew you could sell enough stones to make a living.

I believe the man I'm pictured with in the original post is Akimitsu Oguro - he's listed as the president of Morihei.
