What's new

More Gin!

I see that gin threads pop up every few months, but I haven't participated in one yet, so:

Gin is practically the only thing I drink now, and it's always straight. I actually love a good gin and soda (I drink plain seltzer like crazy; super refreshing!), but anything so easy-drinking is very dangerous for me. Tried martinis and didn't understand why they would ruin perfectly good gin. The only martini worth drinking, in my opinion, is a Winston Churchill.

I've tried all the liquor store gins. Beefeater is my staple, Hendrick's when I want to splurge. Bombay Sapphire is pretty good, Plymouth and Seagrams are decent. Aristocrat and any Tanqueray are on my blacklist.

I've heard great things about Boodles, but it's not even available here in Marine Corps City, NC, where the only thing more common than liquor stores are barber shops.

Can I find Boodles anywhere in the southeast US without ordering online, and are there any other gins that I just NEED to try? I'm okay with expensive, as Beefeater will remain my daily vice!

Thoughts?

Lord, dude, are you in FayetteNam?

My fave gin at the moment is Amsterdam. It is cheap and it is good. You should have it in your local ABC.

Beefeater is my favorite poison. I have, on occasion dabbled in Bombay, Boodles, and a new favorite, Bluecoat from Philly. Very tasty on the rocks with a twist for that extra Vitamin C.

I suggest folks look into Broker's. For my money, it's the absolute best gin value. Damrak is also delicious, with an entirely different flavor profile, and a higher price tag.

Either one would mix well if you should so choose. The Broker's makes for a fine Churchill-esque Martini, as does the Damrak. In fact, Damrak is so good, I could probably drink it straight and room temperature.

Yep, that good.

Not a favorite. Strong orange note seemed a bit artificial. Made a lousy martini... but then, I like vermouth and use it with a heavy hand. The OP may find he likes this.

We do have Magellan! I think I remember seeing Amsterdam, too. The rest of the gins mentioned don't seem to be sold around here.

I honestly wish I was! I'm on the east coast, in what I consider the armpit of America.

In three weeks, though, I'll be back in Flordia where I belong! :biggrin1:

You simply MUST try Magellan. It is by FAR my favorite Gin. Followed closely by Junipero and Hendricks

Beefeater is my favorite daily as well, although I'm warming to Bombay (not sapphire).

To change things up a bit, I'd recommmend Junipero which comes from the Anchor distillery in the CA bay area.

Beefeater summer edition and 24 are worth a try as well.

Lastly, I'm not a fan of regular Tanqueray, but Tanqueray 10 is wonderful stuff.

If i'm feeling real froggy I go straight for the 100 proof Seagrams!!

After reading this thread, next time i'm in the store i'm gonna get a nice bottle of gin. Gin and tonic is one of my favs but for some reason I just haven't reached for one of the more pricier bottles.
