Montale Attar?

My wife was looking through my frag samples the other day, and she was captivated by Montale's Attar. She's been looking for some kind of a rose fragrance lately, and Attar seems to be the one for her. I'm thinking about directly ordering a 100 ml bottle for her from Montale (this will let me sneak in a 20 ml bottle of Black Aoud for me too!). Any advice? Should I ask them to concentrate it?

If Montale is willing to concentrate it, I would have Montale concentrate it. (Montale really resisted concentrating Oud Cuir d'Arabie and I went along with no concentration. Apparently, they are perfectly happy to concentrate Black Aoud, so I am guessing they will the Attar, too.

No other advice. They are pretty easy to deal with. Sometimes it hard to get them to respond, but stay after them! You will probably have trouble with your credit card going through. Your card company will give you a call. But that is not biggy. The card people just want to know how you managed to put in a charge at a small store in Paris!

Just a thought: Have you tried Julliette Has a Gun's "Midnight Oud"??? It is a dead-on match for Montale's Black Aoud for much less money. It is very concentrated and lasts for ever.

No, but I would be intersted. It is actually not any cheaper, at least at Lucky Scent than ordering direct from Montale.

If this stuff can keep up with Montale quality-wise, it is some classy stuff!

What do you mean by 'have them concentrate it'? Will they add extra perfume oils? Or is it that they just reduce the total volume but you end up with more concentrated juice?

I think that they actually add more fragrance. Hopefully one of the guys who bought some can tell us for sure.

The former, although I do not know that what they add is just extra oils. Whatever it is, the resulting overall juice has a higher concentration of what makes it smell.

Total volume either stays the same or goes up--some have suggested goes up by as much as 20 ml. I think I have seen other suggestions that the total volume does not go up at all, and I do not know that it did, or did appreciably, in anything I have been involved in. (By buying direct, you also get 20 ml of a Montale scent (they really encourage getting a different scent than the main scent) in a travel atomizer. They do not seem to concentrate that 20 ml rider!

Hm! That's interesting. Do they charge extra?

Also, what does their shipping look like? If I ever want some montale, I might just order direct...

I scraped my pennies together, magically changed them into Euros and made my order. With any luck, a 100 ml bottle of Attar and a 20 ml travel bottle of Black Aoud should be arriving in my mailbox early next year. They offered to concentrate both, which seems to involve adding a greater proportion of fragrance to the solution. I'm eager to see how they turn out.

Montale does not charge extra for "concentrating," althoughThe Nid's getting the travel size concentrated is the first I have heard of that. (They do not like to concentrate Oud Cuir d'Arabie, for aesthetic reasons, and I think they are very candid and truthful as to their reasons.)

The concentrating, the free 20 ml travel size, and free shipping is a part of the deal when you buy direct from Montale.

I truly do not know how any store sells Montale at the typical prices, given how little Montale sells scents for direct with all the extras.

TNH, if you like the regular version of Black Aoud, there is nothing about the concentrated version that is going to turn you off! To me, Montale is pretty concentrated to begin with. I do not know that the concentrated version is all that much more intense, but a bit.

So do you deal with them via email, through their Contact page on the website, or do you converse with them by phone?

I emailed them and worked out the details through an exchange of messages. After that, I faxed them my credit card info.

Thank you. This is a bit premature for me, as I am awaiting samples of Black Aoud and Cuir D'Arabie, but the descriptions given here and the sample I did enjoy of oud oil have me expecting to have need of that information.
