Monk strap shoes

^ Agreed. For $250 you can find something better. I don't care at all for the white stitching, and particularly don't like the thick stitches around the front of the shoe. Keep looking.

I may be the odd one out here...... I like the shoe and it looks to me as if it will fit your purposes pretty well, Dave. If you were after a black shoe to wear with a suit and tie I couldn't vote for it but this one goes from relaxed business to jeans or khakis IMHO.
And BTW- omdroparebop is a big fan of Pliner shoes! :thumbup1:

I'm with the majority, I'm not keen on the stitching. However I would assume that using black shoe polish would darken the stitching.

IMHO, great looking shoes. I'd jump on them for $190.00. I would not be afraid to wear them with a sport coat and tie as well as with casual wear.

Please pardon my ignorance, but what's C & J? I did see a really nice pair of Magnanni Ciro monkstraps (http://www.shermanbrothers.com/product.php?ItemId=8957&ProductId=15977). If I could remember how to do so, I'd post a photo of them. My only concern is that they're too dressy for my intentions.

C&J = Crockett & Jones. they're an English company that makes high-end men's dress shoes. the ones pictured are called the Lowndes and probably cost around $350 (I think) with the current exchange rate. of course, there are other higher end English shoe companies out there like Edward Green and John Lobb but their prices are a little high

The contrast stiching and the split-toe makes this a very casual shoe. Not my cup of tea.

Thanks, again.

Besides department stores, are there any shoe stores you recomend in MPLS?

I can't vouch for any of these stores in Minneapolis as i've never shopped at any of them but here are a few non-department store clothiers that carry nice dress shoes.

Belleson's (over on 50th and France in Edina)

I know there are probably a lot more haberdasheries in town that carry a decent selection of men's shoes but since I don't go to any of these shops I can't say who or where they are. I think it largely depends on what type of shoe you're after. I know Judd Frost and Hubert White both carry the Alden brand which is pretty good. Twill By Scott Dayton and Belleson's both carry Allen Edmonds, but you can get those at any department store. I know you probably don't want department store recommendations but it might be worthwhile to check out Nordstrom's, Last Call by Neiman Marcus or Off Fifth. it'll be like finding a needle in a haystack but you just might find that pair of shoes you want at a steep discount.

I've been looking for a pair of C&J's, anyone know if Pediwear ships to the US? I know they did at one time but I heard a rumor that they no longer do. Their website says worldwide so I would assume so but wanted to know if anyone here has ordered from them recently.

I think you're thinking of P.lal that doesn't ship to the US - I believe they no longer have an account with C&J. as far as I know Pediwear ships worldwide, but i've heard mixed reviews of their company. I ordered my C&J Hallams from http://www.shoesnorthampton.co.uk/index.html and their service was great. just some advice, if you order from either Pediwear or Bodiley's, be sure to email them first and make sure they have what you're looking for in stock. otherwise, you'll have to play the waiting game

I've been doing some research on these shoes. C & J does have a store in New York if you're interested in talking to someone there.

I've used pediwear twice, since they have free shipping on C&J shoes world wide. You have to pay for shipping of the shoe trees if you decide to purchase them, which I do.

So far no problem with ordering, but then I don't mind waiting, since I'm not in hurry. The first time I ordered it took them 6 days to ship the shoes (I've ordered on sunday). The last order took 4 days to get them shipped. I guess some might take longer, but at that price, especially when compared to Australia I'm not complaining.

yeah, not a fan of the stitching either. for $100 more you could probably get a pair of C&J monkstraps

Thanks for pointing the way to C&J. I love monk straps and, while I've had no problem finding many options in black, have been searching high and low for rslightly higher-end pair in chestnut brown for quite some time now. The C&J Monktons or Malverns look like they just might fit the bill...

My current monk strap shoes are about 15 years old and are in need of replacement. I typically wear them with gray or tan trousers and a blazer (no tie). I want to stay under $250. Are these too casual? I'm concerned about the stitching.

Thanks.
