Mixing alcohol based AS with Nivea post-shave balm?

I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but would it make any sense to mix your favorite alcohol based AS with the Nivea post-shave balm? I'm torn between the two, I love the smell of bay rum aftershave, and there's not much of a scent, if any, to the Nivea balm. But, I love the great soothing feeling of the Nivea balm, but my Col. Conk's Bay Rum AS stings and doesn't go great with my skin. Anybody every tried mixing the two? Or could you just put one on then the other? (If yes to the second question then this was a stupid thread on my part)

bump- in for answer. i'm currently using nivea ASB and i see where you're coming from with the lack of scent; i'm considering making my own bay rum A/S for a little fun and variation. and scent, obviously lol.

I believe when mantic went to Truefitt and Hill's barber in Las Vegas, the barber did just this, adding an alcohol-based scent (which may have been cologne, as it was a spray) to an unscented balm.

You don't necessarily have to mix the two in your hand. I usually put Dr. Harris Sandalwood splash on first for the burn. Then after cleaning up and stropping my razor, I put on some kind of balm. Works great!

I don't mix them but tend to put on an alcohol aftershave (Floid or D.R. Harris), let it dry and then put a fairly neutral smelling balm like Nivea or Institut Karite on my face. Works well for me, haven't had a shave rash for a long time.

Try wetting your hands and face before pouring out a small amount of alc AS into your hand. Rub hands together and pat it on your face gently. Should reduce the burn. Let it dry a little, then throw on the Nivea.

Hmm...I like your idea of a customized scent and feel. I have never directly mixed the two, though I typically apply a Nivea balm followed by my AS of the day. I would say mix only a small amount up first and see how it goes. It may not turn out well at all, or it may get real weird after the balm and AS sit together for awhile.

Let us know what happens.
