I have never had a problem making good lather with MWF using the technique outlined in the 'Making Soap Lather' tutorial sticky.

I see so many posts describing poor lather, I thought it would be interesting to get some numbers behind MWF and whether users' water is hard or soft.

Voted good lather and soft water, but I used to have very hard water and still got good lather. IME, good lather from MWF looks different from good lather from any other soap. Thinner, yes. A little more effort needed, possibly. But still great lather.

Don't know if my water is soft or hard, just that I get fantastic lather from MWF. Which was not always the case. I had to learn how to work with it.

The water that comes from the tap is soft and I get good lather with it. I've tried using London Water (actual tap water from London) that's extremely hard and I get good lather from it providing I use more product.

I have hard water here in south eastern PA, and got good lather first time and every time with MWF (using a Kent BK8).

Love this stuff, my skin feels so fantastic afterwards.

I think it would be fair to say if your water doesn't leave stains/deposits that are visible around your sink/tub/shower head, it could be considered 'soft' for our purposes.

Poor lather in my case means: 'not looking like whipped cream but rather like what you see on a glass of quality beer save Guinness', and 'unstable on my face, fizzes away quite quickly with the bursting of the lather bubbles clearly audible in my ears'.

When I first started using soaps, I was amazed by MWF, but after using many others, I personally find it to be overrated. I find TABAC to be a superior soap.

I've only ever had a few small sample pieces of MWF I recieved from other members. However, I've always been able to achieve great lather. In truth I'd say my water is somewhere in the middle, not really "soft" or "hard" per se.

There may be bigger advantages to having hard water than having a good MWF lather...

"Dozens of studies in several countries (particularly the UK, the United States and Canada) have examined the link between water hardness and health. Not all the results of these studies have been consistent, but there has certainly been a strong trend to suggest that hard water can protect against cardiovascular conditions such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, and other conditions. Studies in the United States and Canada have reported that cardiovascular mortality rates are about 15 - 20% higher in populations using very soft water compared to those consuming hard water."

I'm surprised at the result of the poll, given the high number of MWF complaints I've been seeing.

I love MWF though. It's not the most protective lather for me, but it's still very nice/unique and my face feels SO soft after using it!

Cymric - Me too. I can easily get this soap to lather. However, the quality of the lather is less than desireable for me.

With all the love for MWF, I expected a much better shave. Especially, when others describe the soap as one of the "slickest" they have used.

Not in my case...

Poor lather in my case means: 'not looking like whipped cream but rather like what you see on a glass of quality beer save Guinness', and 'unstable on my face, fizzes away quite quickly with the bursting of the lather bubbles clearly audible in my ears'.

I've gotten good lather from MWF with both hard and soft water. It takes some experimenting to get the right amount of water on the brush, but once you get it...
