Greetings from Mendel!

As many of you know, my beloved 17 year old dachshund, (the real) Mendel passed away on September 9. Thank you for your condolences.

My wife and I are weakening and will probably be getting a miniature black and silver dapple dachshund in the next 4-6 weeks. Please cast your vote for your favorite name for the little guy.

The Count of Merkur Cristo

B&B's Emperor of Emojis
I know it's not on the poll, but like and vote for the name 'Achilles' or since your new puppy will be black & silver in color, I also like name 'Shadow'.

Sorry to hear about you friends passing, my condolences. As to the new name I say Rubin as it the the most odd and un-human like name, but also kind of reminds me of Paul Rubins aka Pee Wee Herman which reminds me of Wee-ner Dog... by-the-by our long haired mini doxie is a black and tan named Kola... like Coka Cola because he's kind of that color... terriffic little fellow.

I like Gunther, German name for a German dog. Our mini Dixie is named Burton, a little devil sometimes but I love him.

I like Gunther. A good German name for a German Breed. I googled the meaning of Gunther found this:

From the Germanic name Gundahar, derived from the elements gund "war" and hari "army, warrior". This was the name of a semi-legendary 5th-century Burgundian king. He appears in the Germanic saga the 'Nibelungenlied', which has him married to the Icelandic queen Brünhild.

There are no miniature dachshund names...only miniature dachshunds. For shame, sir.

i vote for Rubin because then you could say disarmingly to those who meet him: "he's not only a great dog, he's also a terrific sandwich".

Mine's name is Andre and I call him Dr Dre. He was sired by a long hair that looked just like yours named Winchester

I think you should meet him first and then decide what name fits him best. Gunther if he's a gruff Teutonic, Milton if he seems smart and reserved, and Rubin if he has a nice voice.

ha!! actually I agree- I'd wait to meet him to name em :)

so glad you guys are opening up your house/hearts to another and I know Mendel is too!!

I agree that you should wait until you've spent some time with the dog. You may very well come up with a name different than the ones in the poll.
