Military Sets

Do you have any prized military sets? I think the khaki sets are really cool, so I wanted to show off this pouch set...
- "Property U.S. ARMY" under the guard and serial J 8283

When I got this it had a man's information typed on a little paper as you can see...I wonder what history these razors have seen

Anyway, I want one of these as well as the US Army set in the hard case but my holy grail of the military sets is the US Navy set. It's in a blue pouch. Don't think they made US Navy sets in a hard case. I've never seen one.

Yea, I know...I searched the name, but couldn't come across anything unfortunately.

That Navy Set is awesome...I've never seen one before. They were issued or just for consumers?

That is a nice very well preserved set you have there. I too have had an interest in the military sets, but until last week had not purchased one. I saw a nice Bulldog razor sans case that I picked up on the Bay. It was pristine except the razor head that had a spot of missing plating. For practical purposes It didn't seem too military, and more like an #15 Aristocrat in appearance with the barber pole knurling and open comb but with a sleeker head due to the 3 piece design. I tried the razor with a Feather blade, which turned out to be too aggressive for my beard.
Then tried a Crystal with OK results. It won't unseat my Brit aristo's or Jagger Chatsworth for shaving performance, but is not bad with the less sharp blade.
I then saw a Bulldog set on eBay with a nice military case, canisters, blade holders in nice shape that I picked up. It was offered from the same seller as Eyeguy's recent finds. I am hopeful it will cure my persistent RAD for a while when it arrives. When looking at a set like that it is hard not to wonder who owned it, and what parts of the world it has traveled. Was it an officer who controlled the lives of many brave souls? One can only wonder..... I will keep a lookout in the future for the missing shaving brush to make the set complete. I feel lucky to find such a nice old piece to own and wonder about.

Well, that particular seller, glasgowgoodies, is known to jack prices up and piece&part sets together so 1, I wouldn't buy from him unless it's one of his many Or Best Offer listings and he actually negotiates and 2, do research on what you're buying from him as he's known, to me anyway, to mismatch razors with cases and heads with handles. That's just my honest opinion on him. I'd rather see someone pay too much for something really nice, than too much for junk. I'm not saying don't buy from him, just do research on the item you're considering buying from him. I've got a nice, cased New Bostonian from him but I also got a black handle/gold head tech from him that's the wrong head and wrong case.

I don't see any decent sets or reasonably priced sets on Ebay right now. You could try posting in the WANT TO BUY thread located here. You Army or Navy? If you're Navy and money is no object, here's a nice Navy set on Ebay with a Buy It Now price. Being that it has the commonly found crack in the handle though, I think it's overpriced myself.
