What's new

Micromatic Monday

Razor: GEM 1912, chrome (nickel?) plated with the hexagonal(?) handle; circa 1928?
Blade: GEM by Personna SS PTFE (3)
Brush: Muhle Silvertip Fibre synthetic, medium size
Soap: Stirling Coniferous

Another perfect GEM shave this morning on two days of growth. BBS after WTG/XTG/ATG passes. No nicks, burning, or irritation. I thought that I had made a mistake by using too-wet lather, but this actually helped the slickness and cushioning.

That is such a beautiful razor. I love the checking pattern stamped into the recessed areas.

I haven't tried anything from Wholly Kaw yet but I love the 2 Fougere soaps I have tried.

A.S.Razor shave, Tue, June 1st 2021

Razor: Everready 1924(AKA shovelhead)- Mfg-1924-33, great mid range, different way of loading blades from back, once dialed in it will give excellent shaves and a joy to use with great audio feedback. Takes a regular Gem blade that is one of the best.
Blade: Gem Personna SS PTFE (9) excellent blade, very sharp, great longevity, smooths out nicely, predictable.
Soap: Gillette PURE cream, nice refreshing scent with great lather qualities.
Brush: Yaqi 22mm Cola, 1st use of this new addition Den brush, excellent lather generator, cloud like soft tips, not a lather hog, nice scrub + excellent lather painter. This would be a also for a excellent travel brush and regular Den use IMO.
Pre shave: Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on the cleaned beard area.
Prep: Cold water rinse rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG+ pickups.
Post shave: Pinaud clubman with witch hazel + a dollop of Nivea balm.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers = :a17: Excellent shave with my ER 1924 shovelhead with a coated Gem blade.

Have some great shaves!

Quiet week on the thread! Quiet for me too, two quick shaves and two days skipped since last Monday, but a lot of outdoor work got done.

I am overdue on giving the Featherweight a spin, so that razor is queued for tomorrow. See you then, gentlemen!

Micromatic Mon 7 SOTD
Soap Catie's Bubbles Ocean Grove
Brush Yaqi 24mm Atlantis New & 1st Use
Razor GEM Push Button
Blade GEM Stainless 7th
Post & Aftershaves Ice Water + Alum + Stirling Witchhazel MitA + Hyaluronic + Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Nice enough soap. Mild pleasant scent but creamy and slick lather. This new synthetic brush is different. The bristles are not as soft and it feels stiffer...more back-bone more scritches. I like it...at least it's different from other Yaqi synthetics.
Shave with razor paired with the blade was another nice, smooth and comfortable 3passes without any issues for a bbs to dfs result. Good aftershaves.

MMMonday, June 7th 2021

Razor: Gem Micromatic (MMOC)-1st gen(buttonless) 1930-32,2nd gen (Button shims) 1933-41, excellent mid range> I like to use this razor when # of shaves on a blade gets higher because it has a little more blade feel. Built to last and looks it, nice weight also. Solid brass.
1st razor made to "Twist to open" in the world, very advanced for its time period.
Blade: Gem Personna SS PTFE(10) excellent blade, very sharp, great longevity, smooths out nicely + predictable.
Soap: Italian barber Amici- mild positive citrus scent, excellent lather qualities.
Brush: Yaqi Red Zebra 26mm :001_wub: of all my synthetics brushes this one ticks all the boxes for my type of brush, excellent lather generator, heavenly cloud like soft tips, just the right amount of backbone for a gentle scrub(no heavy pressure mashing will ruin any brush) + excellent lather painter which combines it to feel of high quality luxury feel when lathering.(it does not get much better for myself)
Pre shave: Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on the cleaned beard area.
Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave: Italian barber Amici with witch hazel + a dollop of Nivea balm.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers =:a17:excellent shave with my MMOC buttonless with a coated blade.

Old Spice Classic

Not a bad shave today. DFS+. Had a little issue with a hand tremor that affected my ATG pass. Since the razor is so light, and ATG doesn't get a gravity assist, it's all up to the hand control and mine wasn't so great today. No blood, but not my best shave.

I was knocked off my schedule about 6am, finally got swiftly shaved and ready to exit. But a pause to post...

I'm not sure an Italian tube of methol Palmolive fits a mid-50s modern shave, but whatever.
>Featherweight / Gem PTFE (9)
>Palmolive cream / world's most common E-R banded boar
>Lucky Tiger ASFT and Barbasol Brisk

The Featherweight really performed - close, easy shave. I have gotten adept at these FW, G-Bar, Contour flip-top flat head shaves.

Off to the woods! Enjoy your well shaved MM, gents!
