Metal Polish question

I'm about to embark on my first vintage razor restoration. This past weekend I bought a 1950's super speed, it has some soap scum on the handle and some rust on the inside of the head. I've read the wiki, and I'm familiar with Maas polish, are there any more that would be good for this type of razor?

I'm assuming this is a nickel plating with a chrome finish from the pictures I've seen of the original razor, is that correct for this type of super speed?

A lot of people including me seem to have good luck using the Scubbing Bubbles Foaming cleaner to remove soap scum. Spray the razor parts, wait a couple minutes then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Most junk comes right off.
I'm not sure if it's recommended to use metal polish on nickel razors but I know the owners of gold razors stay away from it if they want to keep their finish on.

I'm pretty sure that razor is nickel plated brass so it might be some tarnish but it's not rust.

Rust inside the head is usually the result of a pre-stainless blade being left in the razor to rust. That along with the soap should clean off OK.
Scrubbing Bubbles or soaking in dish soap/ hot water (not boiling), then scrub with an old toothbrush. Nickel plating is thin so stay away from power tools. Congrats and good luck.

Scrubbing bubbles to get the crud off the razor.....soak the razor for half a day also with some dish detergent.....finish up polishing with some Maas polish & you will definitely see a great ( and nicer) difference when you are done! I've used different metal polishes but I've found Maas is still the best to use!

Blue Magic also works great. I'd also suggest getting a cheap $35-50 ultrasonic cleaner. Actually in that price range they are more of an high speed agitator but work wonders on restores. Add 170 degree tap water, a drop of dish detergent with a small spray of Windex. Now you have a jewelry cleaner solution that works great.

I've used these to clean razors and they do work wonders, however be careful on razors that have painted parts (i.e. Fatboy), it will take the paint out of the numbers.

You know your the second person to say this. I've never had one lose it's paint since getting one. This after over several dozen adjustable razors. Tell me do you have the metal lined ultrasonic?

Scrubbing bubbles is fine, but you might also want to try using just regular toothpaste. Just rub a dab onto the razor with your fingers, rub it good. Then follow up with an old toothbrush and rinse under hot water. You be amazed at how clean the razor will get, and it'll really shine. The toothpaste won't hurt the finish either.
