Merkur Slant Rumor

HAving just returned from the New York Gift Show held at the Javitts Center I was told a disturbing fact by a sales rep I buy from.

The sales rep does not work for Dovo, but a North American agent who wholesales. He told me the Merkur Slant line has been discontinued completely. Not just gold as we know it, but silver too. A check of the Dovo site does not show any slant cut products either. Is this old news or bad information.

The rumour is untrue. A fellow have sent an e-mail to Dovo-Merkur after reading about the rumour.

The response has been given by Uschi Chris, from the sales department of Dovo-Merkur.

She has written that this rumour is not correct and that Dovo Merkur still produces the 37C and the 39C. They do not intend to stop the production.

As for the Dovo website not showing the whole line-up - as a matter of fact, it never did. That means nothing.

+1 on the justification rationale. That is the reason I ordered a baby 37C to keep my 39C from being the lone slant in my razor family. Hopefully the Merkurs won't be too threatened when the sexy Tradere slant shows up at the door

why is it so tough to find the slants at online retailers? was looking a few weeks ago and everyone seemed out of them (at least my goto shops)

found one on Amazon (39c) which is enroute....


as for the justification, well that was what prompted me to get 2 Kanayama cordovan strops last week. the artistan strop maker is in his 90s and his son has zero interest in pursuing the craft

may need to order a back up of a few more.. then in a few years corner the market! wink

The initial rumblings of the Merkur slants being discontinued was worrisome in itself. What didn't help matters was the fact that most of the 'major' online retailers I normally frequent are out of stock for both the 37C and 39C. This did not help my OCD 'shavepocalypse' doom and gloom thinking...

depends on who's judging the rationality. to the average Joe - anything more than 1 razor period is irrational.... here on B&B I suspect you (and I) have ALOT more wiggle room

I talked with my sales rep 2 weeks ago about the "gold" version being discontinued, he spoke with Dovo and they assured him that the gold slant will still be in production, but they are discontinuing 'some' of the gold plated razors. However, i was not informed as to which ones will not be produced anymore. Hopefully he got some correct information, but this could have changed after the trade show. I should hear from him again soon.
