Merkur Progress-Reg size vs the long handle

Hi,

I'm in the market for a good adjustable safety razor and it seems that the Merkur Progress is a good one.

Question is this. Is the long handle version better than the shorter one in some way. Is it all personal preference?

Thanks for any input.

The Factory Version Long Handle is the one to get - it is heavier and easier to hold on to. There is some whining on B&B about the plastic knob on the end, but rest assured if some classic Gillette had the exact same type of knob, there would be enough drooling over it today to fill a bathroom sink!

I've seen a picture of a single die fitted in place of "the cheap plastic knob":mad3:, making the razor more suitable for CRAPs????:001_huh:

I've had both and prefer the factory long-handled version. Both are great though, just like the weight and extra length of the long handle version. I really don't mind the plastic knob, but I would like to get mine "mergressed" because I like the way it looks.

I have the stock short handled version. I have no qualms with it and even shave my head too during the warmer month, I also like Feather and Astra blades with it.

I have both the regular and XL (both converted to Mergress) and like them both. I prefer the XL because it's easier to grip.
