Merkur HD vs Lord L6

YMMV-question and answer!
Though both hold a DE-blade and both are 'mild' razors (with the HD being the most aggressive of the two) they are opposites in many ways; the HD handle is short, thick and heavy while the L6 handle is long (there is an M- and an L-version but the M-version is still longer than the HD handle), slim and much lighter. So the balance is totally different as well. Grip is better on the HD though grip on both is good but personally I don't like the HD handle one bit; too short and thick for my taste and since I prefer head-heavy razors the L6 is clearly my choice between the two.
Craftmanship is harder to point out. Merkur is better made in some respects but has a rather poorly fit and finish; none of my Merkurs have flawless platings and none of them centers the blade perfect. The Lord is rougher made but has good plating (certainly when you consider the price) and perfect blade centering combined with a much cheaper and more simple handle.
For me the whole shaving experience with the Lord is much better than with the HD but there will be numerous members who disagree with me on this. But since the Lord has a very friendly price-tag why don't you check it out for yourself? It will at least serve well enough as back-up or travel razor when something better shows up! The Lord has become my go-to razor while there are also Merkurs, Mühles and Gillettes in my den. Worth every dime twice!

I use an L6 head on the Merkur 33c handle. I would concur that the HD is more aggressive than the L6. However, I prefer the L6 over the HD. The L6 has become my go to choice for my daily shave.

I like the shave of my L6 at least as well as my EJ89 & better than my tech or SS. I wish Lord made a premium razor with a lot nicer fit & finish but the same shave!
I use the L6 as one of my DE razors when shaving my dome. U can't beat the price and it gives me a good head shave.

I do the exact same thing except on a Merkur 15C handle..which happens to be the same handle the 33C uses. Great combination.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the heads are exactly the same. They are similar, but the Merkur head seems to be a little more aggressive than the Lord Premium L6. Also I think the overall build quality of the Merkur head is better than the Lord. In the past, I preferred more aggressive razors such as the Futur and/or the 37C Slant. Lately, I have preferred less aggressive razors like the Lord Premium L6 and the Merkur 1904 safety bar.
BTW, I also have a 34C and use it sparingly. Although the 34C is a fine razor, I will probably end up selling it.
