The first DE I ever shaved with was a borrowed Merkur HD, and it was something of a disaster. I didn't want to attribute it to lack of experience, so I chose to blame the razor instead. Now, months later, I decided to try out the old HD once more, and I was blown away! It's a great razor. I got perhaps my closes shave to date. I guess it just proves the old saying "blame the Indian, not the arrow." This isn't the first time I've revisited an old product that I initially didn't like, only to have my first impression completely changed.

I have a 38c , same head as 34 c. Best shave I have ever had!!!
1000% agreed. My 38c has served me well. I had some trouble swallowing the initial cost, but now I adore my Merkur, and shaving has become a wonderful time of day for me (I started out with this razor about 4 or 5 months ago, it helped me take the plunge into wetshaving).
An excellent point! The HD is still the razor I use more often than any other (the Gillette NEW is next). Good for you for thinking to give it another go.

+1 Excellent point, heck, I do the same thing even with shave soaps. The first time you use it you hate it and then a couple of years later you try it again and you really like it. I've been shaving for 19 years and the Merkur HD is still the best razor I've ever used. I buy other DE's from time to time, try them for a while, then go back to the HD.
The HD is ALWAYS a great, great, great razor.
