Merkur Futur Question

Which would you say is better? Chrome or Satin finish? I like the looks of the chrome better but the satin looks like it wouldn't scratch as easily and has that more futuristic look. Any suggestions? I left the gold out as it is $15 more.

Honestly the satin finish will not improve your ability to hold it at all. it's just as smooth. But the satin probably wont show scratches as much

I went with satin for mine, figuring it would slip less with wet fingers, but now I wish I had the chrome, just so it matched my other razors a bit better.

My chrome Futur has yet to get any scratches. I've never seen a satin one in person so I can't comment on the appearance or grip of the satin relative to the chrome, but I don't have any grip issues with the chrome, and I think the chrome is absolutely stunning.

I have the Satin Futur and Im very happy with it. I like the look of it very much. As much as I like the chrome finish it looks a bit run-off-the-mill to me.

I had the satin one and yearned for the chrome one. I don't use one now, but if I was going to buy one, I'd get the chrome one and then cut out strips of ice-hockey tape or similar and attach them to the handle. Ideally I'd like black silicone rubber strips in a stingray grain with industrial marine glue. But that's a bit of an afternoon's work.

I have a satin. I havent held a Chrome, but the satin has a bit of texture which helps the grip, where the chrome looks quite smooth.

I have the chrome, which is not only stunning to behold, but also easy to hold. As long as you don't get any soap or cream on the handle, the grip is fine.

spanner time!! What about ease of cleaning?? My satin futur accumulates soap scum like no other! I've taken to using one blade at a time, removing between shaves and cleaning whichever razor I've been using! It keeps my futur shiny (satin?) that way! I left it for a while as my daily razor and it was quite tricky to clean, the soap scum was really tenacious!

I actually have the satin and chrome but no gold, (yet)

The grip is actually very similar. However, the satin is much easier to keep clean or at least easier to keep looking nice. Both excellent shavers!!

I've had no trouble with my Futur. It cleans easily... much easier then my other TTO or 3 piece razors since they have harder to reach places in their crevices.

Also I've never felt like the razor would slip out of my hands. Even when wet. Even when dunking the whole razor and my hand in warm soapy water I use in the sink basin when shaving.

I think people just try to find problems with the Futur. Sorry... but you can find faults in anything. And any razor. You can always find a way to make something dangerous to your saftey by handling it in an odd way.

Buy what looks good to your eye.

To me, I liked the gold... but could only afford the satin.

Another hi jack. What about the adjustment I imagine you would hold the razor filled head and twist the shaft? How many people are missing fingertips?

Back to the original post. Go chrome or go home, the satins nice but as someone said previously it will match everything when the RAD kicks in.

Chrome. The satin finish looks dull to me.

As to the Gold, isn't it shiny?

Yes it is $15 more, but consider how many years you're going to keep it.
