Merkur Blades

doctordial

my brain goes "thonk"
Has anyone ever tried the Merkur blades that come with the new purchase of a Mekur razor. I never tried them and I was wondering how they perform?

I think they work well. I don"t use them anymore because there are other blades that work well for alot less money.

The one that came with my Progress was an excellent blade, close smooth and painless for four shaves. This was my first DE razor (I've used everything but before) and at first I thought I'd forgotten to load the blade. Easy DFS, with no blood or burn at all

They got so many votes for "absolutely worst blade ever in all of history" on a thread that I have to wonder if they include a different blade with the razors

Caveat: I haven't tried a second one.

They are too expensive for what they are imo but, despite all the hate going on for these overhere, I don't think they are bad. There are just so many better blades for (much) less money available that one pack is all I ever bought.

I don't see a problem in using it. I just wouldn't base my opinion of any blade on only one. I happen to prefer Merkur blades in my Merkur 34G, just as I prefer using a different blade in my SS. I will occasionally try a 5 pack of something else, but I keep coming back to the Merkur blade. It's not the sharpest, but I get a nice smooth shave from them and that's what matters most. I wish they were cheaper than $.45 a blade, but the blades I use in my SS cost about $.12, so it averages out over the course of a year.

Definitely a ymmv thing, but out of all the blades I have tired, Merkurs were close to my least favorite. Price and performance were both sub par. I tried them in a few different razors and each time I found myself not caring for them. I know there are people on here who do like them, so I say give them a shot and test them out. Sampler packs are always perfect to try out a variety of blades without breaking the bank or making a commitment to a big haul.

I find them more comfortable than derby extras but can't justify the price for quality. I too get my merkur blade from a newly purchased merkur razor and it's good for 5 shaves. All in all, they're good for me but I'd stick with rapiras and perma-sharps.

It's all YMMV. I personally like the Merkur blades. I find they give me smooth shaves. However, I do agree that they are too expensive.

Ditto.

Merkur is a decent blade for me. Not a favourite, but gets the job done.

...haven't tried them, but would definitely use them 'in a pinch'. :001_rolle

Funny story.

When I first got into wet shaving I bought a merkur with blades. I have the blades and moved on from them within a few months, went to feathers and derbys.
After a few years of experience I retried them today and really liked them. No irritation or burn..no cuts.

For me these are average performers, but far too expensive. I buy better blades for less money. Astra SP is one of the examples.
