What's new

Merkur 39C Slant should not be your 1st and only DE razor

Or you would have nothing to compare it to , and describe it as the best, the very best DE razor.

I have had mine a couple of weeks and used it in my normal rotation. Today, with a new Astra, it was so smooth, I actually looked at it to ensure that I had installed the blade. One pass WTG is equivalent to my Merkur 33C, or EJ89 two passes, one ATG.

I will still use my other razors, but I will look forward to the days that the 39C comes up.

It is almost magic how it shaves and you don't feel the blade.

I am very surprised and can't understand why other manufacturers did not invest in this design of razor, very smooth and efficient.

My Slant is by far my best shaving DE razor. However, I use the Rapira blade instead of the Astra, I can relate to your statement that sometimes you need to look to see if a blade is actually in it, it is so smooth. The only other razors that compare to the quality of shaves I get from the Slant are my SE razors. Both the Slant and SE's are in a different league.

Up until a week ago, my 39c was my everyday choice and it still remains a solid favorite. I have been focusing on my R41 that has been just sitting on the shelf so I'm going to use this one for a while. My 39c will not be out of my reach, however. I love my 39c!

Opinions vary. There are lots of slant lovers around, I however find them to be unimpressive

I am truly sorry that I do not impress you; wait a second, you do not even know me.

Hi Tom: Glad that you are enjoying your slant razor. Slant razors are great performers. I have the 37C & 37G. I get incredible BBS face & dome shaves every time.

My 37C is such a great razor that is seems to make my blades last twice as long, all the while giving a closer shave in fewer passes. I'd imagine that the cleaner, more efficient cut of a slant allows for the blade to stay sharper longer.

My biggest regret since I started DE shaving is not trying a slant razor sooner.

I just got a 39C yesterday - first shave with it tomorrow morning.

It's joining my other slants which are pretty much my favs:

Hoffritz slant
Hoffritz Travel slant (use it with my EJ89 handle... lovely!)
vintage Merkur white handle slant
Merker 37G

I've found that a seemingly worn and tired blade from a conventional razor still feels smooth and cuts well when used in the slant.

Sadly, due to alarm clock issues I was unable to take my new 39c out for a spin this morning. I am sporting scritchy 2-day growth and I am not amused as I sit here in my office.

On the plus side, as of 5pm today I am off work until January 2, so tonight I will be able to give my shave a much more relaxed setting and give the 39c a proper shakedown.

Actually, that scenario will allow you to truly test out the 39Cs capabilities. Though you are already familiar with how slant razors shave so it shouldn't be a big surprise. For me, they shine most when used on multi day growth. Nothing shaves me easier and with absolutely 0 tugging in that kind of a situation. I absolutely love my 37C and it will always be in my collection. A razor everyone should try sometime.

I agree the 39c is one fine shaver, im sure ill give mine a try as soon as i can get off my Titan H1 or Atlas R1 Razors, They have stolen the show for l my Razors, But def the 39C is a fine smooth shaver...
