Is the Merkur 33c just a lighter version of the 34c HD or does it have a different head? Wondering if it is as aggressive as the 34c HD or is it more on the line of the Gillette SS. Thinking of adding one to my stable.

Same head, lighter handle. I think it's around 58g total weight.
I began DE shaving with a 33C and I still use it even though I've graduated to heavier razors.

The design of the Merkur heads is roughly the same but in practical use the 3 piece models (23C, 33C, 1904) are milder than the 2-piece razors like the 34C. The 33C is a nice middle of the road razor that will serve you well as long as you can live with Merkurs quality control.
