Memorial Day Parades

So with Memorial Day upon us, I was wondering how many of you fine gents will be participating in any of the Memorial Day Parades and how.

Are you marching and with who, driving a float, car, truck, bike, playing in a band or or just enjoying from the sidelines.

I'll be doing my annual duties driving a 1 1/4 ton, 6X6, M561 Gama Goat in two local parades.

Here's a little info on the Gama.

The M561 Gama Goat is powered by a Detroit Diesel 3-53 power plant mounted behind the driver's cab in the two axle tractor. The trailer had its own powered single axle, a true 6x6 design. Both the front axle and the rear axle on the trailer were steered, giving the Gama Goat extraordinary capabilities to move in tight places. The aluminum body was watertight allowing the Gama Goat to cross waterways, but it had no propeller and could swamp easily which limited its amphibious ambitions.

So who's doing what?......Enjoy the parade!!!

I'll be on the sidelines teaching my little ones to cheer our local heros.

Then I'll be calling my grandfather to thank him again for his service in WWII and for teaching me things that only someone with his experiences could have taught.

Ray--is that your Goat? How cool. I'll never forget a long ride that I took in one in Okinawa. It was as noisy as all get out, but it was a beautiful drive along the coast. Just thinking about it now brings back a lot of memories.

I don't think that my town has any memorial day observance any more but my family and I will take some time out during the day to think about our relatives and friends who have served, especially those who were killed in the line of duty. Then we'll spend the rest of the day together--probably a barbecue in the evening.

Unfortunately no, a buddy of mine collects military vehicles and seeing I drove one I get the call and privilege to drive it each year.....:001_smile

Me and 250,000 of my closest friends will observe Memorial day on Sunday before enjoying the greatest spectacle in racing! There will be quite a parade of people after the race is over!

I'll be in the crowd. My youngest daughter is both a twirler and a drummer, so last year she was in the parade as a twirler; this year marching in the band.

It's a win-win situation. I can show respect to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, as well as beam with pride at my little girl.
