Mega score from Grandparents house!

Ok folks, I scored huge when my wife and I visited my grandparents house in Wisconsin earlier this summer. Pics are forthcoming, but I wanted to share my bounty with yall and I had a question about one of the items.

1. Date code F2, gold plated, Gillette Super Adjustable (I think, yall can confirm once the pic is up). TTO works great. My question is this: the adjustment dial does not budge, either way. It looks like there is a little bit of something in a little slot where it looks like the adjustment dial indicator is. I can't move the knob left, right, or up. I'm assuming this is not normal and was hoping to get some troubleshooting advice....... This razor is the one my grandpa used for years before switching to an electric.

2. Gillette SuperSpeed in red case. Apparently this was the razor my grandma used to shave her legs!

3. Assortment of blades. Including Shick Plus Platinum, Gillette Thin, Gillette Super Stainless.

Like I said, I'll try to get a pic up ASAP so yall can drool over it, I was pretty stoked to come across this stuff and actually have my grandpa be willing to let it go!

Would appreciate any troubleshooting help on the adjustable.

Congrats on the great score ... Family Heirlooms are always the most treasured items in any shave den. I'm sure you'll enjoy using them.

Regarding that stuck F2 ... don't force anything. It could just be stuck with almost 50 years of soap scum in the works. Give it a good soaking in Simple Green or other cleaning solution, rinse and repeat several times, keep agitating it every so often to work the solution to all the parts of the razor.

Try the gentle methods first, but a more aggressive solution would be to boil the razor, or put it in an ultrasonic cleaner or autoclave (pressure cooker) if you have access to one of these.

Once it frees up, a few drops of mineral oil should keep it working smoothly.

It would be awesome to inherit some razors from older family members.

I agree with the previous poster about being patient with the stuck adjuster. I've only dealt with one razor with a stuck adjuster. I ended up soaking it in scrubbing bubbles (or dish washing liquid) for a day or two. I eventually wrapped a towel around the adjuster and used some vice grips to turn it. Luckily, it freed it up and I didn't have any future problems with it.

Nice score!

I think you need to be careful with what you use if the SA is gold. Search for some of the DE cleaning threads to find out what you should soak it in.

Good point.

I'm 99% certain that the cleaners I referenced above will be fine for a long soaking, but don't boil a gold razor (unless you want to purpsefully remove the lacquer). I usually do a final polish on gold razors with windex (ammonia based cleaner??), but I haven't done a long soak with it before. Good luck!

Those Schick Plus Platinums are terrible blades. You'd better send them to me so I can dispose of them properly.

SS in a red case - isn't that 1949? That would be my birth year razor. If I liked TTO's I would surely want it.
