What's new

Maybe one more Pistol

I'm thinking about one more 9mm Pistol.
I have been looking at the Sig P320 x5 legion and the Colt gold cup trophy.
I absolutely love my Sig Extreme 1911 in .45 and do like the 1911 format in general, but damn, the x5 legion is one fine looking gun.
I do not own a Colt yet but this one seems to be built for competitive shooting - as does the Sig.

Does anyone have experience with either one of these and has there been any issues that you would care to mention?

Friend of mine has a Colt Gold Cup. Loves it. Have to say the 1911 platform has much more history and accessory potential than does a SIG. But then. You already have a 1911...so🤔
Now for the record...
the P320 X5 has a stellar reputation. However, I’ll give the nod as “Best of Show” in the SIG line up to:

Sig Sauer P220R
.45 ACP
Regarded by many as the BEST and MOST
BATTLE WORTHY pistol. Ever.
I don’t know if I share that opinion but for sure it’s a top tier pistol.

I'm partial to single action really. I held a Sig 226 Tacops and just didn't like the feel in the hand. I really wanted one till I held it. Due to costs of ammo the 9mm is the one to have a variety of.
The Extreme is the same as the Scorpion in .45 and felt great in the hand. It also is extremely accurate for me.
I know there were problems with the Sig 320 x5 when new but it seems to have good reviews now.
The Colt Gold Cup is a little more money but I'm leaning that way.
Just wondered if anyone had issues with theirs.

I have historically valued robustness and reliability over raw performance. Moreover, I do not own a 9 mm pistol that I would not carry for defensive purposes. If this is going to be a target pistol, buy whatever you want. Shooting with a 9mm 1911 is almost cheating, particularly if you have dialed in a pet load/recoil spring combination/magazine/configuration.

If I was going to carry the new pistol in a defensive setting, and was looking for another 9mm pistol and I already had a Glock, I would strongly consider an offering from CZ (SP-01 series) or a 2.0 Smith & Wesson M&P with the Apex FSS trigger system.

Indeed, if you are not in a hurry, I would look at the Dan Wesson DWX made in conjunction with CZ. In essence, the pistol will be a hybrid of a 1911 and a CZ built arround reliable CZ double stack magazines.

Let us know what you do.

I have a M&P 9 and a Heckler and Koch in 9.
I have shot the CZ Shadow 2 and it is a nice gun but its a DA/SA
Dan Wesson's are very expensive.

Just one more........
STI....check em out....they have nice 1911 style and Hi cap....

STI's are very expensive too but if I had the money that's what I would buy. They are gorgeous.

The Canadian dollar has been in the crapper for some time now and the two I'm considering are 1400.00 (Sig) and 1600.00 (Colt)respectively. That's a lot of green.

How is the build quality on CZs? They do seem to come in at a good price point.
The overall quality and durability of CZ firearms is exceptional. The finish may appear kind of pedestrian; but the machining and fit are quite good. Of note is how the CZ 75 slide fits in the frame, not over it. Many say this helps overall accuracy.
For legendary craftsmanship, accuracy, finish, and just being plain sexy.....
You ain’t gonna beat a Browning Hi-Power
Plus...it’s SA, just like a 1911.

Thanks

Well, I still haven't made my purchase yet but have decided to go the 1911 route.
Now in contention is the Sig traditional match Elite, Colt government and Dan Wesson Specialist/LASD.
Do the Dan Wesson's still have the same love since merging with CZ?
The Colt seems to never be in stock in Canada. I can get the Wesson for slightly more than the other two so still considering.
Any preference between the three? These are for the range only and only considering 9mm.

I had a Dan Wesson 1911, Patriot IIRC. It was okay but like all 1911s, simply didn't work for me.

One of the few handguns I sold and never regreted.

Wow, I thought there was a ton of love for Wesson pistols.
I really like the weight and feel of 1911's.
