Mass market vs artisan soaps

Thanks to the kindness of an individual I kow got my hands on some artisan soaps. Catie's Bubbles Connecticut Shade and Soapy Science Hanalai. Time to find out what's all the fuss about artisan soaps :) My very first observation is that they are both very hard (triple milled hopefully?) so I think they will last me plenty of time.
Soapy Science is one of my favorite soaps. They are firmer than most artisan soaps not because they are triple milled, but because they use a higher percentage of sodium hydroxide in the saponification process than most artisans. Most use potassium hydroxide only, which makes for a very soft soap. If you use sodium hydroxide only, the soap becomes overly hard and more difficult to load. Soapy Science uses a nice mix that allows for quick loading but also adds hardness to the soap and makes the puck last longer.

In my estimation, Soapy Science is one of the top artisan soaps available. Enjoy!
