Marlborough: Harris vs Trumper

I a bit surprised both Harris and Trumper have a "Marlborough" scent.

Are they very similar? Anyone own both and can compare them?

I have DRH and have sampled the GFT one. I thought they were both well done, but not very similar. They both have cedar, but GFT uses it lavender and geranium, so it feels a little more "aristocratic" but might have limited usage. I think you have to be okay with that geranium note.

DRH has cedar with sandalwood and a prominent smoky note. Some love it, some call it "ashtray smell." I really like it but I understand why some don't. Whether you go for the DRH kind of hinges on how much you like smoky wood scents and how well they suit you.

Hope this helps.

I agree with ScottB's descriptions, but our preferences are opposite. And for what it's worth, whatever extra notes are present in Trumper's Marlborough gives it a kind of rosy note to my untrained sniffer that I really like.

Very good explanation. Though what some get as "smoky" I get as the sort of "camphor-y" that you get in Harris Sandalwood and Green Pond. Six of one...
