Mama Bear Mug Soaps - mug suggestions

I gifted myself Mama Bears 9 pack of mug soaps and apparently I didn't realize the size of these mug soaps is fairly small in diameter. Anyone else using her mug soaps and what kind of 'mug' are you using? Since I bought so many I was hoping to be able to drop them in a mug and take em out when I'm done so I could rotate them without having to buy 9 different mugs! Pics would be helpful!

Thx!

I don't have my Mama Bear mug soaps yet (should be here tomorrow), but I would guess they should fit into an Old Spice Mug. You do have an Old Spice Mug right? No wet shavers den is complete without an Old Spice Mug!!

Below is my favorite mug of all time, as I like to lather directly on the puck. The tapered sides reduce brush clank as well. Most importantly for me, is that the mug is made of a break resistant resin, rather than being ceramic, or milk glass.

A small stoneware coffee cup works for me. I was in a "Dollar" type store yesterday and saw a rack of mugs that would do the trick. Shaving mugs are cool, but any cup that holds the puck will do, IMO.

What I do with pucks that I want to use for a few days, but not dedicate a mug to, is to line the mug or container with plastic wrap. After I'm done with the soap, I just put the plastic wrap and soap out together. You can use the plastic wrap to wrap the puck up until you use it again.

Dang, that's smart. Never thought of that.

I'm not a fan of things "clanking" around at the bottom of my mug, I preferred a more form fit approach. I bought a few of the Anchor Hocking 6 oz custard bowls as Target for $0.99/piece. And then melted the soap in the microwave at 15 second intervals until it melted and then cooled the bowl in a sink of cold water and popped it in the freezer. In less than an hour you have a perfectly fit soap at the bottom of this dish that is quite easy to use. Then if you want to use more than one, these bowls are stackable... that's my $0.02.... best of luck!

I suppose I should have re-read what you originally posted, stating you wanted to be able to pop in and out of a mug with little effort. The Anchor Hocking bowls will still help you out, because they have a rather flat bottom and are small in diameter like the mug soaps are. Just use the soaps and then slide them out, without melting them. I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home, I will take a picture of what one of her mug soaps look like in them both melted and unmelted.

Hey thanks everyone for the suggestions! My plan was (is?) to head out to the local antique store with one of these pucks to see if I can find something interesting that will fit.

@michiganlover - thanks for the pics! Those look great, I'd be curious to know if it fits these small pucks though. And yes I do have an OS mug from the 50s but it's dedicated to OS!

@graybeard57 - that might be next if my antiquing doesn't produce any results...

@5savages - that is a really good idea. I'll probably try that if I can find the mug I'm after. thanks!

@tjg5181 - I actually did that with several other pucks and it works a treat. You're right those are cheap enough and stack so I probably could just have a nice little 'stack' of mama bear pucks. looking forward to seeing your pics!

Cheers!

Steve

thanks for the pics tjg - it really does look like a small amount of soap in that container but if I can't find a mug to fit that may be what I end up doing. I've done that with a VDH puck and another handmade soap puck i got off the 'bay and it's pretty convenient especially with the wider opening...

Are they about the same size in diameter as Col. Conks. Cause that fits perfectly in my mug

No, not even close. They are about 1/2 the diameter of a Col Conk puck, as they are only 1.5oz in size!!

I failed to notice this when ordering mine!! They are really not much bigger than what other vendors would consider a sample size.

There is also a cost premium associated with ordering the smaller sized mug soap (for the Dublin Tweed, $2.99 per ounce vs. $2.15 per ounce when buying the bigger size. for the Aged Spice $2.86 per ounce vs. $1.99 per ounce for the bigger size).

I honestly don't see any effective way of using these "mug" soaps without melting them first.
