Mama Bear Ice

I've just tried out the Mama Bear for the first time. As a fan of the menthol, I ordered the Ice sampler pack that included: mandarin, lemon, lime, grapefruit, awakenings, iceberg, rose, lilac ice.

Before I begin, I guess I would base my review on my regular menthol soap/cream, Proraso. Using my badger brush, I concur with the quick lather and slick texture. A lot of people mention mama to be cushiony, but not in my experience. I also thought the lather to be a little thin, but it still performed nonetheless. I tried loading the brush as much as possible, but couldn't get it any thicker/dense. The menthol tingle was quite strong and the strongest I've ever experienced. I can't imagine what Vostok would feel like. So far I've used only two scents, Mandarin Ice and Awakenings. The Awakening is minty and .....medicine-y. And the best way to describe the Mandarin Ice, would be like the flavor from a citris flavored cough drop (Ricola makes one). It took me a while to get accustomed to but, the scent was the variety I was craving.

Regardless I got a good shave from both and will eventually order a full-size soap for my rotation. After all variety is the spice of life. The question will be what scent from the ice line should I pick? Service from Sue was top-notch! I'm curious to try out her non-menthols, ye ol barbershop being one of them.

How many shaves can you get from a Mama Bear's sample?

Big fan of the Grapefruit Ice here.
So much I gave it away :(

So I bought a new tub last week, can't wait for it to arrive!

I got Lime Ice..haven't had a chance to use it though..same with the vanilla&sandalwood and vanilla cream I ordered. Haven't had time to use it..have pretty hard water..and they're my first hard soaps..here's to hopin~

Hmmmm, you've piqued my interest on the lime-cilantro. Too bad it wasn't included in the sample pack.

Sampler Update:

I tried out the lime-ice this weekend. It has a lightest scent of the three I've tried (awakenings, mandarin). Performance was of course the same. I suppose I could have stood for a little more scent, but not sure if that would set it off balance. I've seen posts that mention that MB are scented very heavily, but I noticed that (for the ice line at least) that the scents were strong out of the package but faded pretty quickly after rinsing off. Overall, this may very well be my favorite scent thus far.

The lime ice is my favourite as well. I also ordered the lemon ice, but they don't seem to be quite as aromatic. Lime cilantro and Bay Rum are the other ones in my rotation and I thoroughly enjoy them both. Wish I had ordered the Dragons Blood, but perhaps next time.

Would love to try the Lime Ice. Unfortunately shipping costs are almost $14. That is a bit too much. Anything comparable which can be bought in Europe?

I'm somewhat trying to talk her into vanilla ice.
And no, not the washed out rapper.
Vanilla smells amazing..it would go well with menthol. Kind of a vanilla icecream vibe~

I was wondering about Ye Ole Barbershop with menthol? Anybody think that would be a good combination?

The Cilantro Lime Ice is my favorite MB soap. For me, Freezes my face and just the right amount of menthol without overpowering the scent of the essential oils. So far the last two pucks have been colder for me than Vostok and Sub Zero. Just ordered two more pucks of this stuff and even though I am a tallow based man, have to have these in my rotation for the spring and summer.
