I've just tried out the Mama Bear for the first time. As a fan of the menthol, I ordered the Ice sampler pack that included: mandarin, lemon, lime, grapefruit, awakenings, iceberg, rose, lilac ice.
Before I begin, I guess I would base my review on my regular menthol soap/cream, Proraso. Using my badger brush, I concur with the quick lather and slick texture. A lot of people mention mama to be cushiony, but not in my experience. I also thought the lather to be a little thin, but it still performed nonetheless. I tried loading the brush as much as possible, but couldn't get it any thicker/dense. The menthol tingle was quite strong and the strongest I've ever experienced. I can't imagine what Vostok would feel like. So far I've used only two scents, Mandarin Ice and Awakenings. The Awakening is minty and .....medicine-y. And the best way to describe the Mandarin Ice, would be like the flavor from a citris flavored cough drop (Ricola makes one). It took me a while to get accustomed to but, the scent was the variety I was craving.
Regardless I got a good shave from both and will eventually order a full-size soap for my rotation. After all variety is the spice of life. The question will be what scent from the ice line should I pick? Service from Sue was top-notch! I'm curious to try out her non-menthols, ye ol barbershop being one of them.
