Making Proraso more menthol.

Hey folks.. i love Proraso and have the soap tub (as opposed to the cream) Is there anyway people use to give it even more of a menthol kick?

Use Proraso green pre/shave or 3P pre/shave. That will kick it up a notch. That's what I do and I love it!

You can purchase menthol crystals on ebay very inexpensively. I dilute them in glycerin and add a few drops to any lather. Very effective and less expensive than any pre made. I purchased 4 ounces of crystals a few years ago and haven't made a dent. I would guess the supply I have would last 10 years+.

I know what you mean, my first 2 shaves with the green were somewhat dissappointing. But tomorrow, I'm going to try to duplicate a fantastic shave I had last week with it. For some reason, the menthol just expoded out of it and then hung aroung for about 45 minutes! It was great! I think it had to do with 1) A VERY wet brush 2) vigorous face lathering for about 1.5 minutes. Repeat for subsequent passes. I really hope I can duplicate that, it was my favorite wet shave so far.

How much of the menthol crystals do you add to how much witch hazel? Do you mix up a small bottle and then add the liquid to the shaving cream? How much do you add to the cream to noticeably up the menthol kick?

I tried 1 drop of peppermint EO in a non-mentholated soap and it was the Arctic shave. It felt like my face was wet and it was -40C outside. I don't think it can get any colder than that (or can it?)... The lather was a bit more difficult to make but it was rich after that. I don't think I would recommend doing that (using a diluted quantity would be best as Proraso already has menthol). Peppermint EO essentially acts like menthol crystals, if that's easier for you to get. I like a cooling lather but prefer having it in my AS. YMMV!
