Mailman disaster

Well, I got my order in from Phil at Bullgoose, been away in town all day, came home & found a note from the mailman that says "package in white car". Well it's 99 deg today, and the package was in a hot car for a few hours. I found out what Ogallala Bay Rum smells like without opening the package. Yep, my sample puck was melted. I put it in the frig to harden. Then I put the mess into a shaving mug & microwaved a few seconds. Looks like I salvaged it ok enough. I am still waiting on another package of soaps, from TGQ, I'm sweating it now. The car will be locked now, so the package will have to go on the porch in the shade at least.

Wait, do I understand this correctly? The mail carrier opened the door to a car that happened to be parked in front of your house, and placed a package inside instead of leaving it by the front door? Is this normal behavior where you live? I don't even know where to begin with the problems I have with this.

I live in phoenix. It was 111 today! That is definitely a fear of mine, stuff melting. At least you could salvage it.

Is this a hometown thing? Sounds as if you may be able to talk to your route carrier about your packages. There are advantages to the personal connection. It sounds as if he/she was trying to keep your package secure from theft. Nice intention. Just communicate.

My mailman ( here in Canada ) would leave a delivery notice card for the item (after no answer at the door) and I would need to go to the nearest Post Office to pick it up . Fine by me . If he left it on the doorstep , some shifty halfwit thief , could wander by and snatch it . Fortunately I know my mail carrier and just tell him to card all items bigger than an envelope . :thumbup1:

All items too big for the mailbox get a knock on the door. If no one answers, its a card in the slot saying come pick up your stuff.
This is a good system as far as I'm concerned.

Yep, I live in the sticks, The mailman is a good ol'boy, he was more than likely keeping the package from getting rained on. Even in the hi 90's we get an occasional thunder storm. We don't have criminal element here, he could have brought the box into the house, got himself a glass of ice tea, and would have been just fine with me. Ah well, it worked out.

That's a bummer though :bored:. I am sure it was not intentional...probably he wasn't thinking (too hot maybe) and thought he was doing you a favor.

As Davy said...communicate and I am sure it won't happen again.

Cheers,
Robert

Except when the Post Office themselves abuse this. Our Royal Mail have been investigated and brought to task numerous times recently.

Our mail service was excellent at one time but now the level of service had dropped dramatically. Our mail delivery is often 1600-1630hrs and it has been known to be later than that.

It's pretty much a given that any parcel that won't fit through the letterbox will have to be collected from the local sorting office. Sometimes a card is left, other times not and parcels are only known about when collecting something else at a later date.

Once, I was stood at the refrigerator which is in the porch opposite the door with the mailbox. A card was just pushed through with no attempt from the mailman to knock or use the doorbell. I quickly opened the door and stopped the mailman who had gone just a few feet away to the neighbours door. The mailman did not have the parcel that he had allegedly just attempted to deliver as it was still on his van a couple of streets away. Despite complaining the Royal Mail never did anything about this and never offered an apology.

Quite frankly the service is apalling but even if it went out to private tender it would not be any better :thumbdown What is really annoying is that the amount of mail sent these days is much less than before due to online billing and suchlike. The big thing that keeps our mail service afloat is the advent of online ordering from such as Amazon and eBay. Without the small parcels service the Royal Mail would almost certainly have gone bankrupt by now.

The Royal Mail, don't get me started. The only organisiation worse than the Royal Mail is Parcelforce.

My mailman has a tough time reading. I live in a townhouse and some in our community are winter residents. If the package is too large for our individual mailbox he should put a key to a larger mailbox in your mailbox so you can retrieve it. I was expecting a package and tracked it as being delivered. I had to call the local post office to verify this and they finally sent someone out to open the box. It turned out that he put key in a winter resident's box. Fortunately, I was able to get the package after two days and it was not as hot as it is now.

I live in Canada and Canada Post has left many a package out on the back steps, jammed in the front door or once in a utility trailer I was borrowing.
Oh sure they left a note, but all it said was "in trailer". That wasn't the worst though. The worst was when they just left it on the back steps without a note.

I don't use my back steps. In fact I actually go out back very little. What if it decided to rain that day?

I must say that our mail lady is very good (I call her the mail ninja, she's very quiet when delivering the mail). But she's not the one who delivers larger packages.

That would be great to live in this kind of area!

Just out of curiosity, where in Arkansas do you live? I've got family in Bull Shoals, Mountain Home, and
Fayetteville.

Wow, sorry about your package. Most of the time, our mailman just drops the package between our carport and walkway to the front door, where it may get hit by our car or tripped over. He won't even bring it to the door (an extra 10 feet or so). No knock, no anything. The other day we had something that needed to be signed for, and whoever our mail carrier was that day just left a slip saying to pick it up at the post office, since we weren't home. Only, I was home. If I didn't hear the door, the kids didn't hear the door, and the dog didn't hear the door, well...He didn't try to deliver.

At least you could salvage some, right?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. The one advantage of living in an apartment is the shapely office manager holds the package for me. :001_rolle
