Mailing DE blades

I’m planning a trip to Canada (from the US) and want to mail myself a few DE blades. I will not be checking in luggage. Can I just drop a few blades in their original wrappers into a small #6 ¼ envelope?

Any recommendations?

I got moves like Jagger
I use tape around 2 index cards as a mini-envelope to hold the blades, which then go into a normal envelope of course.

There are also a couple of readily available places where you can buy DE blades in Canada (at a price). Naturally the specific store options differ according to where you are planning on going.

^^Great idea.

First stop, Montreal.
Hopefully one of the locals will chime in on a good place found everywhere like a pharmacy chain etc.

Last time I went to Montreal I had great success with shaving supplies at Vasco Cigars, 1327 Sainte-Catherine St W. I bought some Proraso products, and I think a pack of Merkur blades, but they had a lot of other options, a lot! Sainte-Catherine Street is somewhere you are bound to find yourself at some time while in Montreal, so Vasco's is a nice convenient place to go anyway.

See the Wiki for other options in Montreal:thumbup:

Needs milk and a bidet!
I'd caution you to "stiffen" the envelope somewhat to prevent the blades from sliding about the envelope. The index card suggested is a great idea.

When I ship blades I put them in flat coin wrappers (nickle wrappers work best) and tape the ends.

I've received blades wrapped in a sheet of paper, tapped to a sheet of paper/index card, put inside a small brown coin envelope, left in the tucks, and even thrown loosely in the envelope. All arrived safely with a single stamp (CONUS)

Last time I sent blades to Canada I believe international shipping for a single envelope was around $1.00. If you use an envelope you don't need to fill out a customs form because it goes as a letter. If you use anything such as a padded mailer then it would be considered a package and you'd need to fill out a customs form AND the prices goes up to about $6.00.

I'd also caution you to choose your answers wisely when answering the standard barrage of USPS shipping questions. That is if you take it to a USPS counter to mail it. I was asked a direct question "what is in here" which i was not prepared for... faced with the choice to bold face lie I stuck with my honor and told the truth "razor blades", I'm fairly certain she heard "it's a bomb!". I spent the next several minutes explaining how they were packaged, what they were used for, and that I've sent countless envelopes of blades [bombs] in the past.

FWIW I manage TGBE and know a thing or two about shipping/receiving DE blades :001_cool:

I told the nice USPS lady "toiletries" Package arrived in Ontario.

Razor, bomb. Tomato, Tomato. Anyone could have made that mistake. Did she have a part time job with the TSA by chance?

If you're not overly picky about your razor blades (funny thing to say around here I suppose...), Shoppers Drug Mart, or Pharmaprix in Quebec, carries DE blades such as Wilkinson Sword.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

I've pif'd blades a few times and sent them by taping them to the inside of a old card - birthday card, xmas card, party invitation, etc. Same idea as the folded over index cards.

I take razors and tape them in business cards and mail it to the place where I will be staying. I have done that for years both in the U.S., Canada, the Bahamas, etc. The only other thing to worry about is not to take a large tube of shaving cream along since it will be confiscated. Shave sticks are OK, though.

I can attest that Toothpick's method of sending blades from the Blade Bank is perfect. He sent mine in a nickel wrapper taped at the ends. This keeps the blade wrapper intact and cushions and stiffens the blades.

Vasco has a good blade selection, slightly pricy compared to online but if your going to pick up just a 5 pack it shouldnt be bad at all. If not ive seen the wilkinson swords blades in walmarts, pharmaprix and jean coutu (another store similar to drug mart). The availability does vary from stores to store, for example ive seen the wilkinson sword blades at the walmart in laval off of the 13, but the one in the west island off of the 40 dont seem to have them.
