Lush Soap...?

I have seen the not so glowing reviews (generally) of the Lush shaving products, and was wondering if anyone had tried using their soaps as a shaving soap? if so, how did they do?

I ask as i am tempted to try at some point and was wondering if anyone had given it a go? SWMBO has so many bars of the stuff here, it is quite tempting! :biggrin1:

Cheers,
Tony.

I stopped in one of their shops and they have an actual shaving soap. I checked it out in the store and I didn't care for it.

As far as shaving with a regular bar? I suppose it wouldn't be any better or any worse than any other non-shaving soap. I've used regular soaps before of necessity and I lived to tell the tale. But unless you are just crazy about everything else about that Lush, I wouldn't do it. There are too many other good and affordable shaving soaps that are constructed especially to give you a good shave.

I have tried 2 lush shaving creams one called Razorantium and the other called Shave the Planet. Both used with a Mercur 34HD and a Gillette yellow blade.

I applied the cream after a shower and left to 2-3 mins. These are non-brush creams. Both times I got a great shave with a well moisturised feeling afterwards. My points of reference are Taylors Sandalwood soap and Men-U cream.

Even better and to be commitment free, this Lush will give free samples to try before you buy.

I would certainly add them to the collection, although am a brush addict :)

I asked about a proper soap and they told me, they will never make a shaving soap as it's bad for your skin, it dries it too much and won't give you a decent shave (no "shaving" soap will apparently....).... I was laughing as I left....

I like the lush products, but for people whose job it is, it doesn't inspire confidence when they know so little.....

The store help at most LUSH locations is lamentably lame. Their proprietory shave products are an interesting sideline, but won't take the first five spots in most wetshavers lineups of products, but are better than most of the reviews I've seen that try to get a lather out of a non-lathering product and hold the goo to to task unaccountably for something it is not meant to do. I do think they make a decent shampoo puck, good for traveling.

I might try them (I'll try anything once!) if I could manage to walk more than 5 feet into the store before the fumes overpower me.

They're just salespeople. To them reality is moot. It's all about upping their products. Sales (like law-enforcement and government) is based on fear, intimidation, and deception. Always remember that.

I've tried their shave the planet shave cream.

Some sort of a no foam, deal. Pretty much it's just cream. I didnt like the shave I got from it with a DE but it worked great with a straight.

It moisturizes great and I now use it as a pre bedtime moisturizer. It makes my face tight and smooth the next day.

Well, the one Lush I went into annoyed me, lol. The hipster Rockabilly chick that helped me exuded the most pungent aroma, which was amazing considering I could smell her approach over the fifty thousand competing cloying stinkums in the store. I held my breath while she gave me some Razorantium, but it wasn't in anticipation of getting an awesome shave.

The shavegoop itself stunk as well, in more ways than one...it literally stunk (reminded me of sump oil), it left a heavy layer of oiliness, it wasn't particulary slick, but it DID do a great job of softening the beard. No repeats for me though...

I think Trichomania could totally work as a shaving soap depending on your water hardness. It's a great moisturizing coconut scented shampoo bar and LUSH is very generous with samples if you ask. Also Alkamaar might work also. I would't recommend the other soaps as they have chunks of fruit, nuts etc...in them so might clog up your brush or razor.
