Lower neck redness that fails to disappear

I have a patch of redness that goes across my lower neck from one ear-end to my Adam's apple. It's not super red, but it's noticeable. I have tried not shaving for about 10 days to see if it would go away, but it didn't. I have also tried cold water shaving, and if it helped, it didn't by very much. I use an EJDE89 with Astra, and I lather my Proraso cream with an Omega 49. I splash on witch hazel afterwards and let it dry, after which I put on Neutrogena Triple Protect face lotion. Ideass?

I have had a similar problem the past two or three days.

My face looked fine but my lower neck looked like it had a slight sunburn. It was just below where I where I end my shaving stroke so it is not razor burn. I tried several products and nothing seemed to work until today.

I used two products this morning and one of them seemed to get rid of the problem.

Jack Black Aftershave Cooling Gel and my girlfriend's Oil of Olay moisturizer/SPF 15

My face has been drying out recently due to freezing weather which is why I used the moisturizer. One of them worked.

Good Luck,
Jason

I've had this problem ever since I started shaving a little over 50 years ago. Didn't/doesn't matter what I shaved with, everything from (DE in the beginning), electrics, BIC's Schick's, Trac II, fusion. It's always the same. I shave at night so by the morning the redness, or most of it is gone. I also use post shave balms to lubricate the skin. When I used to shave in the morning and had to wear a dress shirt and a tie my neck would get somewhat irritated to the point of being uncomfortable. For me, part of the problem is the lower part of my neck is not smooth. It has a rough texture. A moisturizer is the best thing I have found. Good luck.

That is a bummer. I have a similar problem. Collars seem to make it slightly worse. Anyway, i was hoping for a solution. Hearing that it will persist for 50 years is not a happy thought.
I have tried not shaving at all, fewer passes, no pressure, shallow blade angle, M3 for a week, etc., etc.

I've had this problem occasionally in the past.

I found out that if I do a good prep while in the shower by using a sponge or wash cloth and going WTG and ATG it will go away.

It doesn't matter if I use Musgo Real Glycerin Soap or my usual face wash but I do need to use a standard skin moisturizer after the shave.

I had a similar problem this summer. This is not a problem I have had in the past. I ended up using a milder razor without a ATG pass and used a Tend Skin recipe I had found on the net. In two days or so the problem went away. I use this Tend Skin recipe whenever I get neck irritation but not part of my regular shave routine. You might do a search and give it a try. Recipe link below.

I have had a red, somewhat irritated lower neck for about 32 years now. :)

Ever since I started shaving.

It got somewhat better when I started wet shaving, but it has never completely gone away.

I spent the first year wet-shaving waiting for my neck redness to go away. Nothing was working. I have a flabby neck. My theory is the blade was skipping at a harsh angle, no matter how gentle or short my strokes were. I watched some straight razor shave videos, where you need to stretch your skin flat and tight, so that the blade glides over your neck, rather than digging in the blade. This solved my neck issues. I still won't go ATG on my neck, and you still need proper prep, good lather, and NO pressure. But maybe this will take your shave to the next level. Good luck on your shave!!!

Most of my redness is on the edge of where the hair grows. IOW, the redness shows up where there is NO stubble (it looks to me as though at least half of OP's redness is also beyond the treeline, so to speak).
Therefore, changing blades or razors is not going to help. Even so, I have tried that. Certain ASBs (Nivea, Unrefined Shea Butter) help a bit, but nothing makes it go away completely.
Maybe Pinaud Clubman Talc will help ...

I have this problem sometimes and changing things up a bit helps it go. I usually shave with a EJ 89 but when I get irritation from time to time I usually use my tech for a few days and maybe just do 2 passes for a while and it usually clears up.

It used to be a constant problem for me on the right side of my neck but it never really went away until a few months ago. I think it is just down to being really careful in that area and I find that daily shaving helps.

We need a new club. The "Irritable Neck Club" or, I love this one, "the Redneck Club". I'm not putting down rednecks. My wife is a southern girl and all of my relatives are southerner's coming out of the mountains of NC.

I have found, since I started DE shaving a few months ago, I have less irritation using a number of different razors with Feather blades and 3 passes. Go figure.

Have you tried using Aloe Vera Gel ? I am bit of a newb but that stuff might be worth a shot. I recommend Fruit Of The Earth, try your local Wallgreens, CVS or whoever you have nearby. And if they do not have it I guess there is always Wal-Mart or Amazon.

I have a similar problem on the right lower neck. I found by careful face mapping, sharp blades & slick soap it never happens.

If you have skipped days between shaving and the redness stays, look at other possible causes. Clothes, laundry detergent, fabric softener ... I'm thinking mild allergic reaction or just irritation.

OP here!

Thanks for the input. Some more info: it's been happening for a year (since I've been wet shaving). It was worse before that but wet shaving improved my entire face except that one spot. Right now I'm thinking about trying aloe vera gel and maybe some other gentler cooling gel. The redness is more visible from far away, up close it looks less irritated.

redness on lower part of my neck tends to be in same area that the skin folds slightly when neck is bended sideways/down.
