Lovin' the Old Spice; does this make me "Old"

Ok guys, a little tongue in cheek with the title but I must say after TLOTH picked me up a gift pack of Classic Old Spice AS & Deo spray I've developed a serious man-crush on the scent. I've since bought the anti-perspirant (6 pack of...!), more AS and even some of the other "flavours" such as Whitewater etc.

I used to think Old Spice was kinda an older blokes scent (I'm only 43) but I am really connecting with it and surprisingly getting positive comments around the office (love seeing the expression on some of the younger guys faces who are wearing $100++ colognes).

I can't be the only one really coming back to the fold on this can I?

Not at all, Paul. Not at all! GREAT stuff, Old Spice. If you get a chance to try some of the Indian OS (made from the original Shulton formula, reportedly), by all means give it a go. I don't think you (OR your wife) will regret it!:wink2:

I'm addicted to the stuff. I'm trying to branch out into some other scents, but OS is at the very top of my list.

I dont know which bottle to get.

The Vintage AS
The Indian AS
The Classic AS from Canada
The Classic AS from the USA
The Classic Cologne from God knows where
Vi Jon Spice clone AS
Family Dollar clone AS

Which one?

I saw the Classic Made in USA and Cologne today but I picked up some Classic AS from Canada today. shrugs :crying:

I'm 43 as well and have been wearing Old Spice since middle school. Old Spice after shave isn't an old man scent, it's a classic scent and classics never go out of style.

I'm 27 and regularly wear Old Spice. I have a huge man-crush on the scent although my Dad says it smells nothing like the Old Spice from when my Grandfather wore it.

I picked up a bottle today and I much preferred the older bottle to the modern plastic one.

Yeah, I'm with you, BigNickel. Not only are the bottles getting smaller, they're now made of plastic as well:thumbdown

Luckily, there are enough of the older ones around antique stores and the 'bay that they can still be had--empty, usually, but emminently re-fillable!

Makes you old enough to do what you want to do.

My dad used it, and probably his dad, too. I bought some when I went back to using a double edge razor. Yes, it's not the same, but I like it.

36 and love the OS. Am realizing a new-found respect for the classics by being a member of this community. It's funny how many compliments one gets when wearing some of the old scents. My wife calls me an old man for a lot of reasons - like shaving with a DE razor, preferring to write with a fountain pen, etc... But I don't think liking OS makes you old. At least I am telling myself this as I progressively see more grey hairs......

Have you considered the absolute crap that young 'uns like?

I don't see the downside of seeming old given the alternative.

I have a couple bottles of the vintage Old Spice, and it is my favorite scent in the den. Just fantastic. I personally find a significant difference between the vintage formula and the modern stuff - even the modern Indian formulation. It's obviously the same general scent, but nowhere near identical. For me, I couldn't see actually wearing the current OS formulations as a fragrance. Deodorant? Sure. After shave? Fades quickly enough. But as a cologne, it's vintage OS or bust for me.

It's the only scent that repeatedly garners spontaneous compliments from the girlfriend.

If you don't get them all, get the vintage before all others. The Indian, Vi-Jon and Family Dollar OS are pretty good. The Classic versions should be P&G.
