Since I started DE shaving a few short months ago, I have been bitten by the bug. My AD has FORCED me into acquiring a basket full of soaps/creams, a drawer full of A/S, and about 18 razors...most of them vintage Gillettes. I have tried a couple techs, one of my slims, and my first (and go-to) DE...Merkur HD. My HD has been awesome. The Gillettes have not been spectacular. I am quite certain that the short-comings of those shaves were because I lack the experience and technique to get the quality shaves these razors are famous for.
So after a couple of weeks of using my trusty HD, I got my 1969 (O4) black handle, flare-tip(?), SuperSpeed out and armed it with an Israeli Personna blade. A hot shower and a killer face lather with a stick of Tabac by a silver tip brush was my prep. What a great shave. This razor was effortless to use. I now have my second razor that I have COMPLETE confidence in. I finished with a COLD water rinse, RazoRock alum stick (very minimal sting ), and a healthy splash of Gillette Cool Wave A/S. The wife LOVES the A/S, btw.
I just wanted to say that I love, love, LOVE this razor.
That is all. Carry on.
