I remember when I used to send my straights out to get sharpened/honed, when I got em back and used them, they were never loud. Since I've been doing it myself, I can hear it cutting every hair. Does that mean my edge is better or worse and if worse, how do I make it better? Oh, the shaves I get with my edges are always flawless and comfortable...just louder.

Hollow grinds do that. But the benchmark isn't the audio feedback, it's the quality of the shave. I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like your doing fine.
