Looking for Strops

So new guy here, started my second straight shave today, its going well still in the learning stages.

So as for stops , would like to invest in something very good. I like this one from - http://www.straightrazordesigns.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36&products_id=802

How are Tony Miller Strops, seems to be the cream of the crop the way folks speak of them.
I tried checking his web site , even registered but cant find any products on there. Thought I joined a church instead.
Any one know how to view his product on his web site?

Thanks

Tony's not doing business at the moment because of the holidays. I'm not sure when he'll open back up. Great products, get one of those and a practice strop

Congrats on taking the plunge!

You may want to think about something less expensive like KenRup's Filly before dropping a pretty penny on a nice strop like a TM or SRD.

Buy a Filly for 20 bucks. Great way to learn, the back comes pasted with CrOx to maintain the edge, and you will keep it forever. Then buy a TM when you can. They are the cream of the crop. Prices are comparable to the other strop makers but far exceed them. Depending on what you want anywhere from 50 on up.

You know, I think you should try the make you have found yourself and report back to us on the quality. To me they look like a direct copy of Tony's strops and as you say, you have to wait for Tony's while that other supplier always seems to have stock on hand. Seem to come in a lot of colours as well.

I had one of Tony's "2nd hand" strops for $30 and it performed as good as my "Artisan" $60 strop.

I'd recommend picking up a filly $20 and wait a few weeks for TM to open back up. You will not be disappointed in the craftsmanship and the service he provides.

Also, when you order one of his strops pick up a practice strop he offers for $7. I use it for travel and to practice.

Not that it matters to you, necessarily, but I'm probably going to purchase the SRD Premium IV English Bridal Strop next. It's a really high quality strop from all the anecdotal evidence that I've read, and it's readily available... They also sell replacement leather that you could get if you scuff it up too bad.

I'm just waiting for a couple weeks (maybe a month) to order it myself.

*Frame of reference: I own a Filly, Tony Miller (TM) Horsehide/Linen, and a TM Red Latigo/Cotton. The TM Horsehide/Linen is my favorite :001_smile

considering you are new,i would recommend a SRD paddle strop. It is really nice and great for beginners and pro'. I have one and i use it everyday

Typically, paddle strops are recommended for pastes and hanging strops are recommended for everyday maintenance. It may be a viable option for everyday maintenance, but I'm unaware of any straight shavers who've been at it for any length of time that are using paddles strops instead of hanging strops.

I hope this helps :001_smile

Mr Miller's strops are the only ones in my shave den at present... One hanging, one paddle. As for SRD, Don is a friend of mine and Lynn is someone I have had few dealings with but respect greatly. I would consider one of their strops if Mr Miller did not have the item in stock you desired. Ken at RupRazor is a quality gentleman who restored my Great Great Grandfather's straight razor... I wouldn't hesitate in any dealings with him either.

Thank you Mike,

All these folks you mentioned seem to be great people to deal with. One of them will be my choice very soon.

Etoknife,
You probably checked my website on Christmas day. I removed all the products and only had a message fitting to the day posted. I don't do business on Sundays or Christian holidays. Other than those day the products and a tutorial on how to select a strop are always displayed.

Thanks,
Tony

Thank You for the reply Mr. Miller. It looks like you will be my choice for my first strop.
Enjoy your time off and I should be putting my order in with you around the 4th of the new year.

Happy New Year
